James Mcdonald retires

Get him back, immediately.

Cap in hand, apologise, down on one knee, wooing, flowers, chocolates, whatever it takes.

Recruit of the year.

Get him back in the fold. If he wants to get in to cosching it should be at Melbourne!

We are sorry James!!! Great career, if it was up to the supporters then we would have kept you. Come home, dont worry about dean, hes gone now

Congratulations to Junior on a fantastic career (although the last 13 games were forgettable).

The sad part is WJ they should have been forgettable at the MFC

Agree.

Hmm I still like Junior more than anyone on our list . . . Well done Junior, great career.

In my opinion we retired him at the right time. This article is 2 years past its due date, and as we saw in his last game (sniping young kids), he was well past it.

If we want him as a midfield coach or something, I'd prefer Ling or Kirk (although Kirk has gone to Freo? I'm sure we gave him a call before them?). These blokes have tasted success and ensured a culture remained strong at their clubs. While Junior was a good leader, I'm not sure if he had that ability.

I now prepare for the public flogging that will follow...

Staying at GWS as a full time assistant too.

With Junior staying there and Malthouse going to Carlton, that cuts down my Royal replacement list to either Lovett or Ling.

Accurate assessment Billy. No flogging here, besides my cat has lost it's nine tails :)

I hope he had a nice paid holiday in Western Sydney. Suspensions in his first and last games pretty much sum up to me where he is at as a footballer.

Overstayed his welcome at Melbourne by 12 months and certainly would not have helped us one iota in the past two years.

No denying his career until 2009 was first rate though, and he would be welcome as an assistant coach at any time.

Moronic post. No point explaining why.

What about Lloyd? I think he'd be good, but I know he has his critics.

Only time he ventured in to the centre square was to iron out Sewell, so I'm not sure what he'd know about being a midfield coach...

I think you may find that Ratten is available, who as I recall had a pretty good midfield going when he was with us before (dementia prevents me from remembering exactly when, and who was his midfield).

But I also agree that Cam Ling, or possibly Lovett would fill the bill admirably should they be winning and available.

Yes...Lloyd as a midfield coach??....would like to see that (not)!

Need to really push hard for Ling "Billy", no flogging here.

Yup, I'd be happy with Ratts too.

Scotty Thompson and a young Sylvia next to Brock Mclean...who looked the goods at that stage.

That was about he time Flash was inventing defensive forward pressure and looked like he could be anything at all.Its difficult to understand how they stuffed that lot up so comprehensively isnt it/

Scotty Thompson was there until injured in Round 16. Ably supported by McDonald, Yze, Brown, Bruce, Green, TJ and an ex Don gun in Heffernan,

But Col and Brock really werent. Col had 3 games for a total of 10 disposals, Brock 9 games for 54 disposals.

There was of course Jeff White as AA ruckman in 2004.

A midfield coach looks good if he has the cattle.
