Jacking up

Very intresting article and love how Sam Blease and Jack Fitzpatrick will be given partners to train with over the summer to help them learn the grips of a very good footballer.

Thoughts?

Thats encouraging isnt it. On may levels. Shows some are definitely buying into the coach's philosphy. Some havent and will be gone.

Its all about the process after having planned to achieve. The old addage that those that fail to plan , plan to fail , goes further with planning to achieve.

Snakes grow by shedding their old and obsolete skin,. We ( mfc) are about to do the same casting off that which restricts and constrains and provide a fresh opportunity to grow.

It looks like things are moving in the right direction, at least behind the scenes.

It worked for Lewis Jetta in Sydney. Maybe someone can also teach Fitzpatrick to kick a football?

thered be a few lining up for those lessons ..lol

Geez im excited for what blease could become, with him howe jones trengove grimes mcdonald watts clark all getting pre seasons under their belt they could really form a critical nuclues to us becoming successful.

Ps you could probably throw in tapscott strauss and gysberts in that group.

I liked "The strength and conditioning and football education moves into phase two, with a more sophisticated game plan being implemented next season."

Shows that the club was aware that we were going to be bad this year but are building.

Please, let it be so as they were right, we were BAD this year.

this year was an 18 month pre-season. i think everyone knows that which is why their is a lack of concern (besides a few trolls on dl) on Neelds overall plan.

he seems to be working the players much better then what Bailey ever did. he has commonly said he sees star potential in many of our players which gives me confidence.

Next year should be a good year.

If this was done in Bailey's years it would've been seen as tanking!

The plan all year was obvious, kick along the boundary line to create a contest/stoppage, try and run down the clock by playing more contested footy, ideally reducing the amount of floggings. But, as AFL does (ie changes from year to year), the stoppages were cleared quicker, which meant we were too slow and good opposition found holes in our zones everywhere.

In the 2nd part of the year, we were using the corridor a lot more, which would've been the start of seeing some form of our future game plan taking place. This gave Neeld about 11 true match simulation training sessions to see what still needed to be worked on.

I'm not buying in to this business about us being better in the 2nd half of the year. We played far weaker opponents, so I don't see how this can be somehting to hang our hat on.

The biggest concern I have is Neeld getting the players to play exciting football, and be excited about playing. He's stripped the players of both areas, and will take some work getting it back (especailly the latter). If he can do that and we can see obvious improvement, his next challenge will be to keep the players focused on becomming the best, and that such a title takes continual hard work.

Probably the best article I have read about the club for a long time.

It shows that we have a plan and a direction to aim towards.

There will not be any short term achievements, but the long term is what I want to see.

Let's aim for being a sustainable power house, not a One Hit Wonder.

Great news for Fitzy! He will be our 2nd tall forward in a few years. He is the same height as Mitch and needs 6kg to get to the same weight. Mitch is a great person to learn from. This means we won't have to recruit another big forward as Fitzy will be ready by the time we are playing in the finals! :)

Give the kid a break! FYI he kicked 3 or 4 goals the previous week with Casey and kicked 2 of the 5 goals on Saturday! Go and pick on someone that doesn't wear our jumper! Better still go and barrack for another team! :)

The part of that article I really liked was the bit about Blease being challenged by Neeld and him accepting, and then them having a laugh about it after he beat the challenge. It shows that while Mark has come in with a bit of an old school [censored] 'em and get them fit mantra, he does have time to be a like able coach.

It may be a puff piece, but this shows me the culture is heading in the right direction.

It is definetly a puff peice but I am happy to get a small insight in to the club at what they are trying to acheive.

Offseason 2012/13 is going to be very important.....

I don't agree jonesbag

IMO

Tapscott very little improvement since day 1 of his time at the club. Does not display any particular talent besides the odd hit.

Gysberts gone backwards since his first few games. Rumour is he wants a trade I think Neeld might oblige him

Strauss looks like an average player at best but after the injuries he has had he probably has 2013 to show more.

No LH we will need everyone we can get in 2013 whether you like them or not.

I'm going to throw this one in before DaisyCutter does - if the players decide not to "Jacking Up" this preseason, would it be fair to say that they would be "Jacking Off"?

Oh billy you are going where angels fear to tread.

However Yes I think

Clearly Neeld's been reading the criticism's of him on Demonland by hardnut, tonatopia and the like and has decided he needs to implement a more sophisticated game plan next year as his 2012 one was rubbish.

To be fair Fitzy has shown utter committment to become a consistently good VFL player by the end of the year and deserved a token game, but his kicking is ordinary.

both goals were from the goal square.

I was never a fan but now he has filled out quite a bit much like Spencer suddenly put on size a couple of years ago and he is quite quick.

I would be happy for him to either be rookied or given some more contract time to develop. but if his kicking does not improve he will be a liability.

blokes like Clark, Sheahan, Cook even Sellar are far better kicks.

Well done Billy,

If I wrote down my thoughts, I'd definitely get a warning.

I intend to live of 'puff piece articles' right through the off-season. It's about the only thing that gets me ready for the next season..

Is that legit about Gysberts? Disappointing if true.

They have all had their injuries though, Tappy had his hips, Strauss broken leg and Gysberts with his jaw. No doubt that it has had an impact on their development. I feel it would be a mistake to put a line through them at this stage.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
