I agree with stuie - the cost would be low but so too would the probability of success. Aussie has proven unequivocally that he doesn't have the stomach for the workload required to play AFL nor the inclination to live in Melbourne. I loved Aussie and I hoped he'd make it, but this would be a complete waste of time and money.

Agree. He is apparently so out of condition, it would take 3 preseasons to get him half fit.

Lol. 3 pre seasons! Any one remember Stewie Dew? He was a candidate for Jenny Craig & look at where that ended.

Dew was happy to stay with his club and train hard. Prepared to give his all for the cause. Aussie just wanted to go home and catch turtles with his mates.

Is that what he wanted to do? Ohhh ok. Didn't have anything to do with his father passing away & him fulfilling his family/tribal obligations during a period of mourning?

You will recall we stood by him during this period. Is he currently playing, I believe not. I loved the little guy, but he lacked the necessary dedication to make it in Melbourne.

Yeh we stood by him & he chose to go back to his community which was entirely his call to make & one only someone in that situation could understand. I don't have the slightest idea if he's playing currently. Don't really care if he has what it takes to make a return. To say it would take 3 pre seasons to get upto fitness if he wanted to make a return is ridiculous.

Every player we draft is a gamble, Aussie has his pro's and con's like all.

I'd risk a late pick (50+) if he demonstrated his hunger prior to draft (i.e. major fitness bootcamp)...

Nup, it could be as a rookie, or not at all.

He doesn't deserve another Big payday, until he's proven his desire & work ethic.

After watching the robbo show he will not play again for the dees...enjoys his food too much. not a criticism but the world is full of unfullfilled potential, massive disapointment though as he is definately someone we could use.

ah welll, bring on ben kennedy

When did he say that. I thought he said he was playing competitive football again.

he also mentions that he used to 'hate' having to watch what his weight and skin folds and then goes on to explain that when he got back home the first thing he did was eat 2 whole magpie geese by himself

Forget it! I know a couple of guys at NT Thunder. Wona's considered a great guy and a great player at that level BUT he is also considered, shall we say, spasmodic in his approach to training. Not a chance to produce the work required at the top level.

The world of AFL football moves in mysterious ways.

Not sure on Wonna. Loved the theatrics. Was never fit enough for Bailey's game plan. He is a mile off Neeld's demands. He'll need at least 2 pre seasons to get in shape. He is coming from a long way back. No harm in trying again. I reckon he will struggle for a rookie spot...anywhere

Agree- his mindset is the issue..

2 magpie geese wouldn't put weight on a worm.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
