Can somebody enlighten me with what exactly we did wrong with Jnr's departure. I know Dean regrets it, but does anyone know exactly why?

Very curious on this one.

As I understood it no one came and spoke to him about his future/retirement/exit until he was bailed up (so to speak) and told it was time to go a few weeks form the end of the year. Pretty poor given he spent around 6 weeks on the sidelines with a hammy that year, which would appear to have been the perfect time for a sit down and chat?

CS said on here that he recieved a fantastic letter from Jnr's parents. So i have always wondered whether there is/was any bad blood.

Try reading what he wrote, I was going to write something similar, Bruce was a great servant to the MFC, he didn't like the deal that was offered so he left, simple as that, I thanked him for playing for MFC (to his face) and wished him well at Hawthorn, (I bumped into him shopping)

Unfortunately we have posters on here who make the post all about them by constantly denigrating players, administrators and anyone remotely connected with MFC, both past and present.

I have spoken to the players face to face quite a few times, and they will listen if you talk to them properly, if you want to hide behind anonmity and just bag them expect other posters to make their point strongly also

Perhaps you should read what I wrote and look at the context before telling me to shut up.

My comment was in reference to Harrisonrules claiming "you won't know the real story.....you only know half the facts".

I laugh when I read people on here saying that they have the inside information on players, administrators or anyone connected with the MFC.

It's simple really, if you have the info, reveal it and it's source, otherwise keep it to yourself. Anything else could only lead to speculation and rumour mongering. For example, the comment "you won't know the real story.....you only know half the facts" about Bruce's circumstances could leave some to speculate inaccurately that he had personal problems at the time, or had a major falling out with the club. Far fetched as this may be, implying that there is much more than meets the eye (at least the other half of the facts, the 'real' story) does nothing to respectfully acknowledge Bruce's time as a player. Of course, I'm sure that's not what Harrisonrules intended, but thats what regularly happens on footy forums, if you cared to explore.

FYI, I have high regard for Bruce's career at the Dees. Except for his last couple of seasons where he struggled with injury and form, he was a great servant of the club.

Career closures are like relationship splits. Very unlikely that both parties are going to happy with the effect.

Preparation for the transition is the key & clubs are getting better at this.

Players have plenty of time, network & opportunity to study & do work experience activity.

There's plenty of cotton wool for these guys to land on.

Joke that applies. Mate of mine had his daughter (going thru a split) say to him. "Dad, the best way to get over a man is to get under the next one." He failed to laugh, but I did.

Before I end my part in this pointless conversation (but you can certainly continue to bang on on your own), I need to spell out to you Mr Peter Kirkham, Member and Volunteer of the MFC, that you again should read what was said, and not make up what was not said.

At no point did I take it upon myself to rule what should and shouldn't be posted on this board. In fact it was you who told me to shut up.

At no point did I tell Harrison rules he could not have an opinion.

At no point did Harrisonrules offer to not hide behind his user name, as you indicated.

At no point did I claim that you do not back up your information with, as you put it, the circumstances from which you got it.

What I did say in my first post and tried to explain to you more simply in the second post was that if Harrisonrules had inside knowledge, he should back it up or not mention it at all.

WYL - the regret the Bailey felt with the Junior decision is that it was left so late in the season to tell him his time was up - Bailey reiterated that he did not think the decision itself was wrong just the lateness and that no indication had previously been given to him that he would not go on.

This is a really difficult issue. Junior is a different kettle of fish to say Lynden Mo-less-Boy. Dunny would not and should not be told until seasons end whether or not he goes on. LD decision is not based on age, soundness of body but purely form. Whether or not he gets another gig, I think everyone will agree that 3 months ago you would have said he's gone but he has shown better form of late and may indeed get another contract.

I think veterans need to be handled differently. I do not advocate as some do that they should "go out on their own terms" as some don't believe their time is up when it actually is.If my memory serves me right White and Robbo muttered about nominating for the draft after we told them their time is up. I do think though, the button needs to pushed earlier than seasons end and discussions as to thinking of the club on the veteran so it can be handled with some dignity as the Green retirement has been.

At the end of the day - you may still get disagreement between club and player on when time is up.

I have no problem with Cam Bruce at all.

The club exits players as they see fit with little sentimentality - some are done well, others not so well - most are done with the wellbeing of the club not the player in mind.

Some players have played very hard ball on contracts and left finalisation to the death knell or float "other clubs want me for big dollars" to maximise the contract- Cam Bruce has done it, Aaron Davey did it and so did Brad Green - again I dont have a problem with it.

Its a professional sport where players contracts and the clubs needs are dictated by demand and supply. I am sure Sam Blease earned extra dollars on his contract because of perceived demand for his services. I am equally sure Joel McDonald would do anything to sign any sort of contract right now.

Its the way of the world.

Maybe the inability to recover from a normal 2 to 3 week injury may have influenced the decision. His recovery from the hammie did seem to draggg ooonnnnn.

And perhaps he is the perfect fit for GWS this year, in terms of experience and leadership, whereas he may not have been suitable for us last year or this year. Can you imagine how his hammy would have coped with Neeld's gruelling preseason this year? Ouch!

Yep agreed. I am just hoping junior does not hold grudges, because in his case there is no need for that. Junior would have struggled to make the side this year with the running required. The MCG is big.
