Watching the Casey v Bendigo game a few weeks ago it was evident that at every stoppage he got his hands to the ball. Yes he has fitness and application deficiencies but he can get the ball in tight. If he improves his weaknesses he will be a good player.

Good base to work from. At least he can find his own footy. Most of our team can't.

We have many players who can win the ball. We win our fair share of to footy during games.

It's our inability to maintain possession of the ball that kills us. We simply don't have enough players with the required skill to hit targets or make correct decisions.

Anything like his game today?

I think we saw some of his undoubted football intelligence, with a quick direction of his teammates and smart decision making near the boundary with Howe & Trengove, leading to a good team goal.

Also made a few nice quick give offs, as he was smart enough to make sure he knew where his teammates were and turn his body before absorbing contact, allowing him to find just the right angle.

Insanely positive write-up. I thought he was slow, lacking match practice, and didn't really have an impact on the game.

Same. Thought he struggled. Just doesn't seem fit enough ... or quick enough.

Be good for Gys to get a solid taste of top level footy so he knows what he has to do in the preseason to compete at this level.

Sounds and seems under done.

Back to Casey if a couple of others are fit.

I thought he did some really clever things.

It was only a handful of moments, but for a kid who hasn't played at this level for a while, I liked a few things I saw.

Was always going to struggle running out the game, and his impact on the game is maybe a bit subtle for some to identify.

At the match with a full view of the field, looking at the how the teams' structures had shifted, him managing to make the tight handball hit its target a couple of times was crucial.

A turnover would have led to an easy goal.

He also identified what was happening, and directed JT and beckoned for Howe to get ready to come on before receiving the ball, then giving it off perfectly.

Only one moment in isolation, but it showed pure footy IQ.

Didnt perform anywhere near up to the required level today.

Stick thin! Been in the system a few years now.

Certainly no excuses for Jordy, he is a paid footballer and obviously doesn't prepare like he really should.

Morton and Gysberts have to go.

For the life of me, i can't understand why these blokes are still built like rakes - with all the facilities and professionals they have at hand.

There is simply no excuse at all, none.

He has the talent.

Just needs to build the engine,

and the drive to fulfil his potential.

I will clarify, when I say, have to go - I mean dropped, not delisted.

Obviously Jordy gets another year whilst Cale probably will get the chop anyway.

And the drive to fulfil his potential?

The fact that this even needs to be asked (and I agree it does) does him no favours.

His pre-season sounded average, reports of him and Blease in the slowest distance run group?...

He can be salvaged if he decides he wants it.

Geez some dumb dumb comments here...

Gys was good today for where he's started from this year. First game for the year and some are bagging him out?!

Pathetic.

I've mentioned this before, but a mate is friends with Melksham, and I'm told that when "The Weap" arrived at Essendon, the players were all given strict new diets.

On the very first day his task for lunch was eat 2 entire bbq chickens.

It was the of same ilk as diets for blokes like Phelps that you see in the paper around Olympics time.

Both need to eat a lot more, but I did notice a bit more definition creeping into the upper body of Gysberts today too.

It's fair to say I'm quite interested in his current status at the club, and watched him closely today.

So he doesn't have "drive" after an interrupted pre-season and coming back from a broken jaw to play at senior level?!

Dumb dumb comment.

Jordan Gysberts - Interupted pre-season, yet to do so, No kudos for Jordan.

Gee after his first game back, didn't pickup 30 touches. Don't think Tappscott got many in his frst game either.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
