Mitch Clark is capable of kicking 80+ goals each year if he's left at FF.

Doesn't matter how many Buddy's got, better player sure, but not the sole target of a forward line like Clark.

Mitch WOULD have kicked at least 60 this year in a team struggling with a new gameplan and lucky to win 4-5 games.

It's not as far fetched as it seems...

*Edit- Stat for your reference: Mitch kicked 29 in 11 games this year, including 2 games where he only played a 1/2 or less (and one of those was GWS where he could have kicked over 8 barring injury).

The decision to sign Mark Jamar for a further three years was an error in my view and we should look to trade him at the end of the year. Rational:

• We are a better side with Stefan Martin in the ruck.
  
• Martin’s best position is the ruck and he is not a great marking forward.
  
• Mitch Clark is probably the perfect second ruck option.
  
• The game has changed against ruckmen that offer little around the ground and there is only room for one specialist ruckman.
  
• Max Gawn and Jack Fitzpatrick (and even possibly Jake Spencer) will hopefully come on.
  
• The best available player in the draft at the time of our pick may be Brodie Grundy.
  
• Jamar’s reoccurring calf injury is a worry.
  
• Clubs are often willing to over pay for ruckmen on the trade table.
  
• We have a slow midfield and this is exacerbated by Jamar’s lack of second efforts in the stoppages.
  
• We are unlikely to win a flag in the next three years.
  

On the flip side, I don’t really like trading loyal players and he will become a veteran over the course of the next three years which has advantages. However, on balance, this would be a good decision IMO.

I think the club should be open to offers for Jamar. If he could help us land a quality midfielder then I would be more than happy to trade him if not happy to keep him. I am quite confident in saying that the Heffernan rule has been abolished and clubs are able to trade players who have been signed up during the year. Dermie was on SEN just last week giving Carlton credit for signing Warnock as it prevents Warnock leaving and getting nothing in return just like Melbourne have done with Jamar.

Okay. So I've been missing from football for two years. Yes I've not laid attention but yet I'm totally amazed not only at how bad jamar still is. But that the club still has no ruck man. Still more amazed jamar was even left on after ten minutes let alone as long as he was. Making a contest was a worse than letting the ball drop to the ground. Too long have our big men (Mitch was great and stellar at times) been given excuses about hiding behind the perennial "he makes a contest" excuse. Hit outs and marks win games. Ja-mustbejoking.

Actually, he should have been damned traded for a 4th round pick last year.

Spencer, Gawn or Fitzy should be given game time above Jamar.

One good season in 10. And because we can't get anything right, there's 2 more years of Jamar to put up with, his trade value now is zilch.

Honestly, his first half was appalling. Luke Darcy ripped into him on the commentary, and rightly so.

Pointing to the hit outs column isn't enough. If you watch him ruck, you see that if he does indeed win the tap, it's just a meaningless hit down to the ground more often than not. He was ineffectual in stopping Ryder and Bellchambers from influencing the course of the clearances. Then, after the ruck, he gives us nothing, whilst Ryder and Bellchambers either link up through the middle, or go forward and kick goals.

I'm beginning to wonder how much of our ineptitude in the middle comes from Jamar's lack of form. I'm not trying to exonerate our mids, but seriously, they're being dictated to by opposition ruckmen.

Interested to know what others think - am I being harsh on the Russian? Or do others also seem to think he's dragging us down?

I've been nominating these players for ages, but especially since last week, as the ones who should be copping more focus and angst:

Jamar, Frawley, Garland, Sylvia, Byrnes, Rodan.

One of those players had a decent night. One. They are meant to be our core group.

alot of people quickly forgot how effective martin was in 2011 when he covered for Jamar. that was his best season for us. he was quickly chopped and jamar quickly signed on for another 3 years. martin isnt that good but i think he was unfairly maligned and that period of half a season or so was the most effective ruck work the side has had since 2010. jamar hasnt been the same since unfortunatley

There are so many things wrong with this club, I don't know where to start but the centre square is a good place to start. Meaningless taps to your feet that the opposition read & actually play for are Jamar's only contribution. Neeld tried different ruck options tonight. Our clearances came with Sellar and Clarke rucking. If Clarke wasn't so valuable (ie. if he was injured again & I'd suggested rucking him, I'd be even more suicidal) , we should ruck Clarke.

Watts and Jamar to Casey. Anyone and Spencer/Gawn in for 4 weeks at least.

It's like they don't practice stoppages at all. He just taps it down to whoever wants it, and 9 times out of 10, an opposition player fits that bill.

It's looking like a horrid move to trade Martin, who's started his Lions career reasonably. I watched him kick two of the first five goals for the Lions earlier. Further, that contract extension with Jamar - he hasn't fired a shot since.
