Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bennell Gone For The Year

Recommended Posts

We have given him a go when he probably didn't deserve it .I was a fan but now I think he may just be better off playing cricket .

Sorry to lack compassion just after his ankle injury but FFS.

I really cannot cope with list letdowns like him anymore. Sorry JB-Sorry to fans of JB but I'm done with guys that get chance after chance and then get injured or get injured and then get chance after chance .

Cut em free-lets get some kids who want this for a career .

Feel free to shoot me down on this but is there benefit in keeping him on the list. We get a freebie rookie upgrade as he will be on the long term injury list. Means that we don't have to use a draft pick on magner, couch or Nicho. Havnt thought through this much but do those far smarter than me think this makes any sense

I'm not going to shoot you down over this because I dont really know the ins and outs of LTI list ,drafting etc .

Is he ever going to give something back?

I believe that with Nicho being in his second year as rookie we either have to draft him or let him go. Not certain but is my understanding. Magner and couch can be offered another year on the rookie list

Rookies can agree to staying on the rookie list for a 3rd year.

Thanks for that. Guess that gives us a chance to have another look at nicholson without using a pick we can definitely upgrade him with bennel on LTI list. Who will be veterans other than green. Jamar? Davey?

Probably more because Neeld may not have had enough time to see how Bennell would fit into his game style. If he improved with the team, then he'd stay on the list because he has a lot of tricks that make him highly appealing. But it's probably unlikely that it woul have happened. With the injury he may just have tipped opinion over to 'maybe' rather than 'delist'.

If I'm understanding properly.

why? do you mean its because we're scared of looking bad for delisting an injured player?

Yes, I don't think it's good for team morale to dump a player who is injured in battle. I couldn't give a [censored] what "the football world" thinks but I do care what our players think - we're trying to build a strong culture and part of that means looking out for each other. I think a fair solution is to delist and rookie Bennell on the same money he's on now - it frees a spot on the primary list at the draft and supports our player in his rehab. He should enter the draft with the contract price specified and if in the unlikely event someone else picks him up then fine.

Four seasons since debut. 57 not particularly memorable games. 23 goals.

I have been constantly underwhelmed although ironically he showed a bit of dash in the first quarter against the Dockers.

I would not like to see him cut loose with his knee smashed (the coach's word and it says something for the extent of the damage) but no-one in football would blame us if we let him go. We all wish him well but Jamie simply has not done enough and we have not had a decent small forward since Flash went upfield and Farmer went west.

I have resisted this thread for two days however It is unfortunate that Bennell has got a serious injury and I genuinely feel sorry for him.

Now to Saturday, he had a good first quarter then the usually 6 possessions till half time is marginally better than the Normal.

Had he played the whole game I confident the his stat's would have been as normal.

As the second quarter wore on he was noticeably MIA.

I have not changed my mind because he has a serious injury

He is not AFL standard .

Still the high jump for me.

It really depends on where other players are at, but we could also keep him on the senior list and promote a rookie for him since he'd be on the LTI for most of the year. We'd need to not be desperate to find players to delist at the end of this year though.

Being purely mercenary it ALL depends on what is likely going forward as to his ability to not only regain his fitness but the likellyhood of him not reigniting this injury or any others.

This is nto some farm where you can afford to have your fav ol sheep let loose in the far pastures out of pity. Football is a business. Players COST money. They NEED to be productive and repay that investment. Its harsh. Its brutal. Thats life.

If Jamie's prognosis is good then wed be silly to get rid of him , just as hes starting to come good.. But the reality is hes gone til the preseason at best. How well is he likely to do in the preseason ? (yeah I know...who knows !! ) without a good preseason behind him he'll struggle again in 2013.

There are hard commercial decisions tobe made here. Its not all palateble by a long shot, but necessary. He might be worth re-Rookying if poss.

I cerrtainly hope he can make a full recovery. But its that or the highway really.

This club has treaded softly for far too long lest it offends some of its gentler players and supporters.

I wish Jamie well with his recovery from what is obviously a horrible injury, but the fact remains that he is not AFL standard and giving him another contract out of sympathy is not going to change that fact.

The last thing Neeld needs when he is trying to rebuild the club is a list clogger like Bennell spending two years getting back to full fitness.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
