Dees re-sign key trio

Three years for McKenzie ?

I find that a little surprising.

They may have given him 3 on a reduced base wage, to free up as much salary cap space as possible.

I'm far more concerned about the lack of news from Howe and Jones.

We had a high number of players coming out of contract this year, perhaps giving a few players 3 is a strategy to stop the same thing from happening in 2 years time.

When, hopefully, their value will be much higher...

I don't think its a bad thing to lock away the core for 3 years.

MELBOURNE has re-signed Colin Garland and Jordie McKenzie until the end of 2015 and Tom McDonald until the end of 2014.

McKenzie is a hard one to judge. Low skill level, high commitment. He did a great shut down job today. tom McDonald will be our best defender and maybe move forward...Garland...Doesn't go in too hard, has skills..no comment.

didn't chis connolly say jordie will be a 300 game plsyer for melboune? the club rates him highly.

I think you judged it well except for your third point. Cotchin had 28 touches today, Jordie quelled him at the stoppage but was murdered on the spread, he is currently half a tagger. He is no star but could be important to our side. 3 year contracts should be only about necessity (clubs are banging down the door to sign him) or to believe they will have a break out year and this will save you cash in the medium term. I see neither here.

Pains me to say it because the guy has a real dip, but McKenzie is a year to year proposition for mine. Horrid disposal should render him a role player who may or may not get a game in a decent side. Three years is extraordinarily generous.

Indeed, to read "key trio" in the title thread is stretching things more than a little.

I don't what some of you are worried about - we go on and on about the 'dead wood' and want to give the rest short contracts at best. We will have 10 players gone every year and half the list to sign up every two years.

It isn't feasible.
