Just chucking this out there:

1. Players drawing large salaries: Sylvia, Davey (contracted until end of 2013) and Moloney (free agent), Green.

2. Coach's contract ending at end of season: Brian Royal.

Assuming two of those players are off the list at the end of the year this will free up a significant amount of money to add to the front loaded contract saving.

1. A future star that has a contract that finishes at the end of the season and which has avoided all trade media speculation: Chris Yarran

2. Young midfielder available at end of season: Travis Boak

3. Ex player that has coaching potential and has actually stated that he wants to coach next season: Cameron Ling

I'd take Yarran for the right price. As I would Boak. I'd go hard at Ling to be honest.

Yarran would add much needed pace and footskills from the back and/or the midfield. If we went Boak, I'd definitely want senior bodies around. I've been saying for a while, I want Sam Mitchell and/or Brad Sewell. Don't think Port will give up Boak for anything less than two first rounders and he's not worth that. Too speculative at this stage.

Ling would add a great perspective to the coaching group, given that at the moment it is very heavily Collingwood-oriented. Geelong have been the most successful team of the past decade, so his insights would be a great addition.

Yarran is a great attacking player, but I don't think he would suit Neeld's style. He is known to be less than spectacular defensively and isn't great on accountability. Could be a very poor option for this coaching group and the direction they want to take us.

Boak has very good reviews, and we desperately need some class in the midfield, so he could be a very good pickup. We certainly need to get someone to come in and add to our midfield, because at the moment we are all depth players with no real stars in there.

IMO Boak is the type we need with a big engine to run hard. Last year I think he had a fairly good year. And he's going OK this year.

We've missed a BIG opportunity not trying to do a trade with the Crows last year, between Aaron or Col Sylvia, & Dangerfield...

Now we move on to other needs. Boak + Caddy &/or Prestia.

Offer Port Sylvia and a first round pick for Boak, I reckon that could potentially get the job done.

I'd love to hear how/why you think the Crows would've agreed to a Col/Davey trade for Dangerfield.

If boak wants out port would jump all over that deal what a win for port!

I think Mark Jamar & our 3rd Rnd Pick would do it. Sheedy would like Jamar as well.

Sylvia has a strong body & still has class. The Suns are short on physical maturity & strength, & the Coast may appeal to Col ??? Caddy or Prestia may be good?

Moloney, anyone?

Aaron IMO needs fresh surrounds to kickstart his motivation. Which side could do with a speedy small player? The Saints??? Pies?

# Of our oldest 13 players,,,, I only want 3 to stay the journey past 2013...

If Boak wants out then it would be a win win for both clubs, we need hard gun midfielders ASAP and Boak is that.

Col or Davey were only examples of a possible trade scenario.. Danger wasn't setting the world on fire last year or the year before, & as such I assume that a deal might have been able to have been reached, if a disgruntled Geelong boy was homesick. I'm sure we could have found something of interest for them.

Nothing Ventured & nothing Gained.... Just as has happened, we haven't gained from this.

Your saying that based on his 2012 form.

Not in 2010/11... If their player wanted out, I'm sure they'd have listened to offers.

Yeah, maybe Jamar and a second round pick, that would get it done especially if Boak wanted out.

Dee-luded the comment was based on us offering Sylvia and Davey.

The first plays 5 good games in his best years and the other is over the hill.

To trade first you have to offer something of value

If you were Adelaide would you take those two for Dangerfield?

Disagree Sylvia and a first round is overs IMO if we offered that to port they should sign before we change our mind! The other issue is getting boak keen to become a dee other clubs are very interested

If the Hawks fall in a heap this year, I think we should target Sam Mitchell, as the Hawks may need to frshen their list. He turns 30 later this year and should have 2-3 years left in him, and would provide valuable leadership in the short term, as well as doing something nobody else on our team can do, extract the ball cleanly from stoppages.

I'd love Ling at the club, and I thought it was a longshot.

Didn't hear Ling say he wanted to coach though.

One thing possibly overlooked is that Neeld would have a connection with Ling, as he coached St Joseph's where Ling played as a junior, and is still active in supporting the club.

Jamar cannot be traded!

Again, he is an UFA and he is free to go wherever he wants for nothing.

Correct. And he would be a priority to sign IMO as there isn't that much behind him to compete against the best.

Sylvia, Moloney and Davey. Like trying to sell Greek Government bonds at the moment.

Jamar isnt going anywhere. Ive heard him say emphatically twice that he wants to be a Dee for his whole career to 'repay the faith'. And unlike others who will remain nameless, I believe he is being honest and not resorting to $cullduggary...

He did say that twice but why hasn't he been signed up already?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
