According to Jon Ralph, who was just on SEN with Bartlett (did anyone else hear them?) he was saying that doesnt matter what the courts find, he is still subject to his tribe law and what how they see the matter and may have a machete put into his head or a spear thrown through his leg. Ronnie Burns was also on and saying different tribes have different laws and there's basically no outsiders who can change that. Marngrook footy show may have some stuff on tonight.

In the NT that might be the only way to keep him alive!

Shows you the serious flaws in our legal system. Here is a man, who may well be proven innocent, sitting in jail for several months before the legal system has the time to hear a simple procedural process of hearing his plea of guilty or innocent and setting up a timetable for the next stages of the legal process. He could end up losing over a year of his life in jail and be found innocent because the legal system is so, so, slow.

isn't Christopher Walker being held in jail because he is a parolee and has violated his parole conditions? might be wrong on this

Even if he gets locked up for a longish stretch there is still a chance he could still play and do his time over here. And why not, his case has already received unusual consideration from the law and the club. There has been several cases of high profile footballers in the past playing whilst incarcerated.

Unfortunately, you normally get remanded if you are an 'unacceptable risk'.

Yep, just ask Rubin Carter!

Once upon a time when it was the VFL there was a a more cosy relationship with the media. Footballing scandals were rarely if ever reported and footballers got away with a lot. So not appropriate to name names. There was a particular champion player who played for a scummy club and was doing time for armed robbery whist creating a legend for himself on the field. And the father of one of the current champions did the same in one of the country leagues whilst doing jail time in the bush before reviving his VFL/AFL career

yep i heard this aswell. amazing really, even if hes not guilty hes still due for this payback when he returns home. Ronnie burns stated even if Obama was to intervene it would have no impact and LJ would still get payback as such.

Will be interesting to see if LJ goes back. Has the footy club(by ignorance) got involved in something that will affect much more that one person. As an elder is it expected for him to go home and face the music?

I have absolutely no education or knowledge of this matter(not sure if many do) and simply want for LJ to do the best thing for his community to push through the issues that are currently pulling a remote community to pieces.

Yes, it all just amazing really. Their tribal laws go back thousands of years. What do we know?!

Not exactly a lot of information in that update is there.... Really want to know what's happening with our LJ

Yeah I know - basically a headline with no story. Hopefully not much in it!

Dot points of the news:

-Apparently the extra 4 charges are for aggravated assault against 4 different people.

-Preliminary examination to be 23rd July.

-His lawyer is seeking alterations to his bail to allow Liam to play in the Darwin game (Round 17), will know about 4ish today.

He is not an elder. He is an initiated male.

He is commonly (and wrongfully) called an elder in many articles/blogs/posts

One would hardly be a tribal elder at such a young age

So if I get this right........No matter what happens in the white man's court, payback will occur.......If this is so, how come witnesses for the proecution (indiduous people) will give evidence in the white mans court.....as well as demanding payback????

Seems that they want it both ways....

Isn't an elder in this context just the same as a leader? I don't think it has to do with age, I could be wrong but that's always been my understanding.

Would be the first club in the VFL/AFL to have a listed/contracted player go to the clink?

If it were to happen, I wonder if we could apply for LJ to wear some Lindsay Lohan-type ankle bracelets for 1 day a week?

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
