Green and Howe can't play together on the forward line

Davey as mentioned above had 5 tackles 2 run downs in the first quarter. He needs another crumber in the front but someone to help also with forward pressure.

Rivers seems to be always playing on someone half a head taller than him maybe he would be better forward or perhaps playing a sweeping role back like grimes. Maybe Grimes would be better forward.

We need more pace in the midfield.

Agree on both of these. Howe was still good today, but I'm not a fan of the attempted speccy every time he goes near it. He dropped about 6 marks today. Frustrating stuff.

Jamar was terrible. Slow, out of it, like the Jamar of pre-2010. I hate the way he gets the ball and immediately looks to dish it off (e.g. third quarter in the 50, when, on his left, he should have kicked for goal, but he chose to handball it away). But the biggest worry was his ruckwork. Completely dominated by Hudson and Leuenberger, which is part of the reason why we struggled in the clearances.

Stats say different. He had more kicks marks & hit outs than any ruckman on the ground.

I thought he tried his guts out, as distinct from a few others.

Problem was, our on ballers were pantsed, too many plodders.

Lions onballers ran away from the stoppages unopposed all day.

This may sound a little defeatist, although I prefer to think of it as being realistic, as we are going to be pushing it uphill to come anywhere near West Coast, Neeld should do what Rohan Connolly is suggesting in today's Age and dump the likes of Brad Green, Aaron Davey, Brent Moloney and Jared Rivers (last year's leaders).

I would like to see Bennell come in, but not as a back... I would prefer to see him playing the small crumbing forward role as his pace and good hands are probably what we need. Sellar and Tapscott could move into the back line to replace MacDonald and Rivers and the Gys or Couch could come in for Moloney.

My lasting memories of last year’s annihilation at Subi was Grimes, Garland and Frawley getting allot of the ball under pressure and turning it over to the eagles press. I think we’re in for more of the same. Priddis also destroyed us.

Neeld has been very confident and self assured since he got the gig. The next month or so will test him. I hope he sticks to his guns, but at the same time he should be prepared to tinker with the way he ultimately wants the guys to play for some short term respite. No point letting the boys be thrashed week in week out because he’s too proud, or dead against playing a tagger.

In terms of changing things up lets get Bennell and maybe even Davey through the half back flanks and try to occasionally run the ball out through their press? Also lets try Grimes on the ball, where his lack of match practice and suspect disposal under pressure wont hurt us on the score board

I expect wholesale changes, yes maybe even this drastic;

I would have thought the two players with the biggest "heart for the contest" would be Bartram and McKenzie. Their problems are with skill, not endeavour.

In my view, the outs should be Joel MacDonald (I thought he fumbled too much and took some poor options), Blease (has pace which he'll use when he has the ball, but not when it's his turn to chase), Tynan (because he's not ready, but I like what I saw) and McKenzie (too slow). Bring in Petterd as a straight swap for Blease; Gysberts for McKenzie; Tapscott for Joel MacDonald and Bennell/Morton for Tynan. Also, put Bartram into McKenzie's run with role; and move Bail to take on Bartram's small defender role.

I don't see a need to fiddle with the tall players, the problem was with the runners exacerbated by having a slow backline (another reason for Joel Mac to go - it's unbalanced having him plus Rivers, Frawley and Garland).

I've got a 4 year old son who I have been steering towards being a Dee fan, but is it fair on him? I don't think so. I'm going to let him choose for himself I think.

I also think players like McDonald, Davis and even possibly Sheahan need to be early in the year. When that time comes they need more than one or two games in a row. Give them a month to settle in unless they clearly are not cutting it.

FWIW i thought sammy blease first half was fine, his dash through the middle and shot on goal was the most exciting part of the day for me. He has only played 6 AFL games (correct me if im wrong) hes a young bloke that is worth putting the time and games in to.

I don't know if they will 'make a statement' with their selections as there are two statements to make...

1) Those that (passionately) butchered the footy and are (seemingly) having trouble with the gamestyle: Batram, Bail, McKenzie, MacDonald, Jones, Blease and Tynan.

2) Those that don't seem to give a flying and revolt rpfc with their body language: Moloney, Rivers, Green, Jamar, and (to a lesser extent I thought, but to excuse him would be wrong) Davey.

I see Morton, Couch, McDonald (tall), Sellar, Dunn and Bate as close to the 21.

Did anyone else watch the Sunday Footy Show and get the feeling the Green as already been told his career is over. Might be wrong but he really looked shellshocked on Sunday. No smiles like after the 186 bashing last year.

I want to see how the guys play in the mid-field without being yelled at all day and possibly build a bit of a bond so that there can be some chemistry in there.

I don't care what the stats say. Jamar was crap. He was lethargic and disinterested at times, his hit outs, whether he got more or not, were ineffectual, whereas Leuenberger and Hudson tapped to advantage. I'm not denying our mids were beaten by theirs, but Jamar was also beaten by their rucks.

Also I'm unsure as to how you can decide who is having trouble with the gamestyle. 1) What is it? 2) How can you differentiate between those who knew what they were doing and those who didn't, given almost all of them looked like they were struggling.

I wanna see Tom McDonald, Tom Couch, Sellar, Tappy and Gysberts in the side and I could not give a toss who goes out. They were all equally pathetic. I think the axe ought to fall on the experienced players though.
