Liam Jurrah: charged, on bail and discussion closed for now

This dosent come close to Troy Broadbridge.

The guy could have been defending himself for all we know .Keep a lid on your assumptions Dees .He's still one of us .

I would absolutely tell him he has no place at the club even if he 'just got caught up in the brawl', even though Im not quite sure what 'just getting caught up' in a machete fight entails.

So what you are saying is you would make a judgement without knowing the facts.

I don't have the will to tear this post apart at the moment but I urge people to reject this view and await further news before communal damnation.

Its easy to always take the high and mighty approach and say support support support but at the end of the day, the hard decisions need to be made to be successful.

How would potential sponsors for FOJ feel about this for example if they found out the club were supporting a criminal (god forbid he is found guilty, this is just a hypothetical)

Sadly, there are times when I feel ashamed to be a Demonlander

Time for a few posters to either shut-up or grow-up

FOJ sponsor?!

We have a Demon in jail and you want to talk PR?!

Just stand by him until the time we have to let him go.

What does our club stand for?

I guess we are about to find out.

I have no idea why olisik 'liked' this post, to me, DC has olisik in the crosshairs with this post.

So, DL7 do you feel better now that you have hopped onto your little soapbox and pontificated

This is so tragic (and still only limited facts known) but you can't wait to jump into the limelight.....FMD

Completely unfair there I am hurting as much as every other supporter.

I can not advocate the actions of what happened on Wednesday night and I don't think anyone would; was simply stating that Liam should have done a better job to remove himself from these situations and if he does and I'm sure he will stay on with the MFC will need to do so in the future.

Never miss an opportunity to pot though do you.

Cam's done the club proud with his press conference.

obviously you didn't see the word 'hypothetical' in brackets there.

in some situations your saying don't jump to conclusions when your doing that exact thing right there.

Jumping to a conclusion that i want to talk about PR when it was simply used as a hypothetical. Seriously, grow up.

Cameron Schwab spoke excellently and did the club proud.

The club obviously think a lot of Liam Jurrah the person, and are sticking by him.

Cam's done the club proud with his press conference.

Absolutely did. This was his best.

Spoke about how much credibility Liam has for all the work he has done, spoke about how we'll be trying to bring him back tonight and didnt shirk a question.

Absolutely brilliant.

For those of us stuck at work and unable to listen to SEN, what did he say?

When do they expect Jurrah, or do they in fact expect Jurrah to return to Melbourne (the city not the club)?

So what you are saying is you would make a judgement without knowing the facts.

Im not passing any personal, social or moral judgment on what has occurred with Liam - which you would see if you could progress past the opaque and obvious inclination of many here to attempt to imply some sort of barbaric or ignorant theme into what I have written, and then conveniently get 'up in arms' with a whole host of sanctimonious expressions.

To summarise my views:

- MFC is a business, and very recently a struggling one at that (some would say its by no means out of the woods)

- We are struggling for sponsorship and membership

- a player (not an aboriginal - that is incidental) has requested personal leave whilst injured and before the start of a very important season for the club

- this player has been arrested, and charged, with possession, intent, and causing serious injury with a machete

- being charged with a criminal offence, NOT PROVEN, is cause for summary dismissal in nearly all employment relationships

- accordingly, MFC should and I have no doubt will, one way or another, bring an end to its employment relationship with this player at the appropriate time. I support this.

- the financial ramifications for the MFC as a result of this could be catastrophic.

- I wish this player the best and hope he comes through it as best as can be hoped.

It will be interesting to see how the club handles this given its recent spouting of 'no-nonsense' and 'elite preparation and expectations of players' which is purported to be some sort of panacea to our listlessness and inconsequential existence in the league which has been the hallmark of recent eras.

+1. A transcript would be nice if anyone is feeling _reaaaaaalllly_ generous.

I've got it recorded give me 10 minutes and I'll type it up.

- we're sending a couple of guys up there at the moment, along with Bruce MacKinnon

- Liam is well supported at the club, Craig Lees was mentioned

- no problems with Liam at Melbourne, with his attitude or application

- Josh Mahoney and Craig talking to the other players

- Liam also supported by the other indigenous players

- don't really know anything specific of the events of the last 24 hours

- haven't spoken to Liam yet

Maybe others can chime in ...

The most important thing in all of this is Liams welfare. The club comes a poor second.

Couldn't have said it better

Who is saying that the club cant support him while he is not on the list?

I am quite sure that the club still keeps in contact with Wona and would support him if he needed anything.

As WJ stated we need to watch what we say re this complex problem. All I want to say from C.S.'s comments were we,MFC were strongly sticking together ,supporting him in every way we can.I feel that we all should just support Liam as best we can even in our thoughts and leave it to others to work through these issues.Furthermore, I hope this will be a spur tomorrow night and the current season itself.

When the club embraced Yuendumu when Liam first came to our club the outpouring of support from us was wonderful. The spirit of generosity was obvious to all. I did not read one negative opinion.

So my question is - did we embrace just the fluffy story of the aboriginal boy from outback Australia making good ?

Now the going is tough we need to ask ourselves - did we embrace just the good bits of Liam story or do we support Yuendumu community, its problems and its most famous son warts and all.

I have no idea what has gone down and will wait for facts. What I do know is that the lifestyle I lead sitting comfortably in Caulfield is light years away from what is happening in the Northern Territory.

What I do know is that what is going on in the Northern Territory is tragic and transcends sport and my beloved MFC.

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
