The Ox was a game-changer and a match winner . No wonder some of less talent like to slam the dude .

He comes across as a guy who doesn't care but on the filed he cared about winning the game at any cost.

On the punt he was some kind of freak also .

Mortals on here and on radio , TV or print can say what they like .

He had the killer instinct .

The dude is a frickin Demon legend.

Love or hate The OX

Would you like to play on him or get him angry?

No .

Spot on Biff

If not for the injuries this guy would be held in the same esteem as Carey.

He has his heart in the right place.

and on top of that I like the guy.

We like to elevate to legend status those who don't really deserve it .

He coulda been as good as Carey ........ but wasn't .

Had a good year in '94.

He won a B&F in '99 after we finished 14th.

Once pushed Sam Newman over ..... Big deal .

Very harsh.

He also had his knee reconstructed 3 times and returned to play for our club the MFC.

Not a legend but was a tragedy for himself and the club when he did his knee. Perhaps our only genuine superstar candidate for decades prior and since then. The type of player who could dominate games. With him fully fit we would have been premiership contenders for sure.

So thats why he was employed by an Top 8 club as an Forward coach.

So he's not articulate enough for modern media junkies who want some [censored] talk about how the wheels been reinvented and all your fathers Ideas are & always were obsolete.

He's a Melbourne great, and a fantastic radio drive time Jock.

Very entertaining & humerous, (Humour or humor (see spelling differences) is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as humors (Latin: humor, "body fluid"), control human health and emotion.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humour LoL...

Well you raised it and it is the silly season - As Theodoric of York said it on SNL...

Theodoric of York: Well, I'll do everything humanly possible. Unfortunately, we barbers aren't gods. You know, medicine is not an exact science, but we are learning all the time. Why, just fifty years ago, they thought a disease like your daughter's was caused by demonic possession or witchcraft. But nowadays we know that Isabelle is suffering from an imbalance of bodily humors, perhaps caused by a toad or a small dwarf living in her stomach.

Perhaps this applies to Ox...perhaps not.

There is a Bill Murray piece where he explains humors straight to camera which is fantastic - I couldnt find it.

Don't mind The Ox in small doses on SEN. He's a simple soul and something of a natural buffoon. I cringe but laugh at the same time when he seems to lack the common sense to moderate his "Australianisms" when interviewing overseas sporting identities. They can be perplexed into silence by his rhyming slang and "fair dinkums" !

I also listened to the interview and thought it was outstanding. An interesting point raised by David, was that right through the time that Daniher was there,Daniher could not cop the Ox, thought he was not good enough.

Pity Daniher didn't know of the Ox's good years.

I remember a radio broadcast involving Swan McKay following a dominant performance by the Ox, speaking of him as the Nureyev of football. Or the day in the final when the Ox had received a knock on the head five minutes from the end after a premier performance by the Ox and a big Melbourne win, the reporter arked Balmie if he had thought of taking him off as a precautionary move as the game was well and truly over. Balmie, laughed, 'Why I just love watching him play. So easy to have forgotten the enormous range of skill he had, sensational marking, wonderfully kicking and exquisit agility. Perhaps the closest thing we have had to a modern day superstar.

Is that the pump house reference? Non comprendez? - the sketch I was referring to was probably on SNL and it has BM dressed in middle ages garb - he explains how in the past medicine thought that common maladies were the result of demonic possession (or something like that) but now through advances in science we know that illness is actually the result of imbalances in bodily humors (ka-ching) - he delivers funny things with such a straight face.

The guitarist with the white cap was very good.

The Ox made Daniher? Oh thats right, daniher was never made.

Out of the 2, give me the Ox.

Let see, both wiped out with multi Knee injuries. Both Top class players. Ox was better. Especially Pre Injury, & better post. But a Lad & larakin.

But Daniher was what, a conservative? And in charge? And we went nowhere but backwards.

I agree Daniher did not make tough calls on players to improve our list but lets not forget his achievements

6 final series from 10yrs

1 GF & 2 prelims

Club was broke & continued board issues, Gutnick etc, Poor training facilities, no oval to train on during preseason

To achieve playing in finals with the issues the club faced was a good effort

HaHaHa, that Guitarist with white cap is very good. There was a little bit of talent on that stage, ka-ching.

The pump house, yeah, I was using a Bill Murray reference to segway to this little gem of guitarists. Just to lighten the Xmas mood.

Yep, he Overachieved with a worse & worse list til' finally he ran the List into Total disrepair, Under his watch.

It's taken Us, since 2008 to bottom right out to regrow our list & now we have to spend another couple of years developing the kids to AFL top level, recruiting this draft, top up players to tide us over..

This poor list management Very Nearly killed us off! Achievements, yeah, for his resume'.

But Not for our History.

Gotta love theox

His tale of listening to the Port game played in Darwin in 2009 when Trenners punched through a behind so we won by a solitary, and David telling of punching the air and whoop whooping as he entered Geelong near the trotting track as he was driving home was a beauty. Shows where his heart really is

He was a bloody beautiful player. headband and all

Bill Murray as Hunter S Thompson in "Where the buffalo roam" is pure genius.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
