Stan Alves was sacked. I went to a coaches clinic a few years ago and he explained that he didn't leave but was sacked because they were starting on a youth policy and he was told by the newly appointed coach, I think it was Skilton, that he didn't fit into the strategy. He wasn't happy and thought his career was over but got a call out of the blue from North and went on to play in a Premiership the next season.

Skilton was coach 1974 -77.

Alves left MFC at the end of 1976 and played the twilight years of his career at NM where he won a flag in 1977. It wasnt a call out of the blue. Barassi targetted him and Alves was treated abysmallly by MFC during his playing career.

I thought Matthew Bishop was on the cusp of being one of the leagues better defenders when he left for Port. Was also at a time when we were crying our for tall defenders

The late Troy Broadbridge was on the cusp of being a very good defender when he was sadly taken away from us almost 7 years ago.

I think Troy Broadbridge gets a fair bit to much credit purely because of his tragic passing. He was nothing more than a handy average player.

Disagree boydie , I think Troy Broadbridge was the difference in Daniher not getting a flag .

Sure he was a handy player when taken but was on the verge of being the lynch pin in the backline that Daniher was desperately searching for .

But alas , we'll never know .

In my time I'd say it's Farmer. Although I was devastated when Woewodin went to Collingwood, but he was definitely past his prime at that point.

I'm with you there boydie. No disrespect whatsoever, and it was a tragedy that Troy was taken at such an early age, but I don't think he was the player that Daniher was looking for to play a major part in a premiership assault.

Rest in piece Troy, but you don't make this list sorry.
