Membership Tally 2012

It does have the tally on the website. You have to now click on membership to view it.

I will do an update on 31st, where we have a tally from the same date last year. We're still behind last years approx ~. 1,500. That said we've made some ground over the last week.

Edit:

Fwiw on 31st March last year we had 32,386. All comparisons from last year can be seen on page one of this thread.

Had we played round 1 by 31 March last year HT?

Yes Game was 27th March.

Thanks for info on where to find the tally. There was no explanation of where it had gone.

The tally on 31 March probably won't include new memberships at the game whereas last year a few days passed after the first game, so might be worth delaying a few days.

31st is a Sat. Doubt they will update on a weekend date, esp as so many will be signing up on match day

Better comparison is to wait till Mon or Tues next week

Remember the season started 4 days earlier last year (sun 27th) so they had time to collate and post the membership results well after the first game

The best comparison date is really next Thursday i.e. 31st last year was the first Thursday after the first game.

It'll be interesting to see how many are signed up over the weekend. Because of the early start last year I don't think will see an accurate comparison until later on in March.

In the meantime, here's the comparison to last year, 2 days before the first game.

25th March 2011 31,087

29th March 2012 30,098

Interesting to look at that 25 March 2011 tally and the final tally for the year which was only about 2,000 more for the rest of the year which would have included sign up's in the first game. I thought more would have joined after the start of the season. We have a very tough draw first half of season so in season sign ups might be low. On the other hand maybe all the coverage of Jimmy and the memorial game will help spike the total, although we are still behind at this stage.

I'm not surprised at all. There were very few encouraging signs last season to convince people who were on the fence about becoming members to actually sign up. Hopefully this year will be different and we can show some improvement. It all starts on Saturday.

Um, where did you get the 2000 from? It was more like 6000+ IIRC

Depends if they update it or not on Saturday. Because we had an earlier start last year, I'd wait a couple of weeks for a truer reflection of any difference there might be in the tally.

I previously mentioned after Round 4...

We will hit 40,000 easily when we start winning.

For most melbourne supporters, including ones who have signed up like myself, it is hard to feel optimistic or get over excited. We are probably not going to make finals, there are too many teams who are certain to finish higher than us (Carlton, Hawks, Collingwood, Geelong, West Coast, Fremantle, Sydney). We've lost Scully, our new coach is untested and we've lost our most watchable player Jurrah.

We need to start a winning culture. we need to start making finals. Then the bandwaggeners will hop back on. In the mean time, we'll get stuck with around 35,000 super passionate, but generally miserable, demon fans. Not a bad effort considering how pathetic we've been onfield for about 45 years.

We are not miserable, I for one have had some great times following MFC,we have had some really good years and played in two grand finals and countless final series and you go on about being pathetic. I will admit it has not been to much fun in the last few years but to call us pathetic for 45 years is disrespectful to the players, coaches and club all who are trying to their best

One of those is my 10 year old who I just bought a membership this morning... and booked seats for the Swans game in May (any other Sydney based Demonlanders going along?)

The membership tally has been making me nervous, so I've just signed up my niece & nephew. I've a sneaking suspicion that I'll get in trouble for it, my brother and sister in law are Tigers and Pies fans. But they're not members so hopefully their lack of effort will be to my advantage. Add in a Birthday Club each, how could I go wrong?

My Dad's getting married next month. I wonder if I should sign up his fiance?

I got the call today. It's not the first time my brother has told me he's disappointed in me.

But apparently my niece and nephew are now excited little Dees fans running around the house with their horns on.

And if I wasn't already in my sister in laws bad books, i certainly will be now, she's just had her face painted red & blue.

Priceless.

It's taken 9 years, but wifey has finally seen the light and i will be buying her first membership tomorrow. GO DEES!

Well done.

I don't suppose many would be interested, but we are currently on level terms or thereabouts with StKilda's tally. We were close same time last year before the Saint faithful put their foot down and took up late memberships.

Let's see if we can out do them this year !?

Update:

April 5, 2012 - 32,235

April 6, 2011 - 33,359

We have made some ground....

So we have roughly halved the deficit? I have the feeling that the turmoil we have experienced as a club over the past few weeks my encourage more lapsed members or people toying with the idea of first time membership, may now sign up... I know I finally took out my membership a few years ago when things were looking very dark for the club, as I thought it was important to get the MFC off its knees.

I hope that's the case, but I fear that it could just as easily go the other way.

I am an MCC/MFC member. I haven't renewed MFC but will soon. I rang them to see if I could swap the 6th scarf in a row for a cap which would be of some value to me. Many other clubs do caps instead of scarfs. I mean how many scarfs do you need. I live in Sydney and a cap can be used all year round. They said no but if I "donated" the scarf and the rest of the membership pack to the club I would get a $25 gift voucher which I can use if I spend over $50 at the demons shop. It really annoyed me and put me off renewing at the time. I still will before the season but the attitude sucks. I live in Sydney and the MFC full membership is a donation I make every year to support the club without getting any benefit. What does it cost them to swap the scarf for a cap.

I do the same and sign my little guy up too. Pure donation.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
