Emma Quayle tweeting that GWS starting to talk to other teams again now, she reads it as perhaps they've given up their last ditch effort to secure Jaeger...

Still a day and 1/2 to go.

According to the Age GWS actually wanted to get 2 U17 picks back with the promise that another pick taken would not be used on O'Meara. While it is clear that the AFL don't like the look of this it has left the door ajar. Unbelievable.

I agree Red. It just means that GWS need to work a bit harder at making their intentions a tiny bit less transparent. Truely unbelievable!

Emma Quayle just retweeted that Mini-draft Pick 2 (Crouch) to Adelaide

According to Michael Gleeson (Age Reporter) on Twitter:

Crows have got pick 2 in u17 mini draft - gets them Crouch.

Looks like we are not going to get O'Meara or Crouch

doesn't look good at all for us.

We might have stock pile these picks for a rainy day

Edited by Diablo Deemon

With the amount of ammunition we have, that would be an awful result.

The only justification can be that other clubs have paid massive overs for the picks. Even then......

Can't see how MD pick 2 can be traded ahead of pick 1 - what if pick 1 can't get done? Does pick 2 become pick 1? The Crows have ND 10 vs our ND 12 so we're in a bind there.

This

We should offer both compo picks if we need to to trump Adelaide. Our compo picks will be around the 10 mark and are valid for 5 years in drafts GWS aren't already raping. They have to be more valuable.

Straight swap, $cummy for Crouch.

the comp picks will be very handy to have when some of the young GC and GWS talents want to return home.

More oddness.

Adelaide List Manager David Noble on Gunston Trade "Overall result won't pan out until the end of the week".

Given no one has said how Adeliade have secured Pick 2/Crouch in MD methinks something dodgy is going on again and that if allowed to proceed by AFL MD1/O'Meara will be back to GWS.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking.

Given this is a discreet trade between these clubs, not sure how GWS could come into it. I wonder if the comment by Noble is saying overall result is referring to all the trades they are trying to achieve this week.

I have a feeling they won't trade O'Meara and will look at getting him next year in 2012. Unless Gubby is creating a Picasso of sorts to establish a genuine on-trade.

Does trade week not run until Monday this year?

Does trade week not run until Monday this year?

I think the trading surrounding the 17yr mini draft picks has to be resolved by the end of Thursday. Trade week continues to Monday, and the mini draft is run on Monday as well.

GWS won't accept a bid for Pick 1 (claim that no offers acceptable)

GWS has done deal with Adel that they will take Crouch

GWS will not seek bids for pick 3 and 4

MD commences with one stakeholder

Pick 1 is "passed"

Pick 2 Adel takes Crouch

Pick 3 pass

Pick 4 Pass

GWS has 3 trades left for 2012 MD

Jaeger coes into 2012 normal draft (where GWS expect to get 1st pick)

How does pick 2 get traded (apparently to Adelaide) without Pick 1 being decided first?

If Adelaide gets pick 2, and no other picks are given out, thats the same as it being pick 1 is it?

Had enough of compromised drafts, odd mini drafts and GWS trying to rort everything.... Bring on 2012 trade week, and Jack Viney!

.... oh and I guess the 2012 season as well!

If that happens.... I would love to see Adelaide screw GWS over and take O'Meara anyway...

With likely priority picks in 2012 to Port GWS are not able to guarantee they would get first pick in 2012.

GC have pick 1 in Mini draft

Trade p/work lodged. GWS swap pick one 17y/o mini-draft and rd2 pick (31) to Suns for rd1 pick (4) and 2010 Compensation mid-rd 1 (G Ablett)

That means O'Meara to Gold coast

Brisbane and GC still able to get PP in 2012 as well.

Pleased to see the AFL doing the right think in the situation.

But for how long?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
