Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The 2nd pick in the MD has not even been confirmed, if it was a certainty an hour and a half ago it would've been confirmed by now. Just saying if it was Adel pick 10 and a compo and they get back pick 14, and ours is pick 12 and a compo and we want 25 back and they go for their deal, thats weird.

Yeah but the problem is, they are 2 years away from even getting onto our list. Then they will need some time to get accustomed to the game at AFL level. If we are serious about winning a premiership, we need to commit with a group at some point, not just continue to bring in kids. If we kept on doing that, the current group of young kids will be about to retire, before we decide to have a dip.

You and Paul Roos seem pretty much aligned on the idea of a Total Rebuild being almost impossible for the reasons you have annunciated. Looks like it took our board a while to figure it out though. Anyhow maybe the penny has finally dropped and whilst we may have been somewhat interested in the GWS fun show, as we haven't paid overs, opportunities and our priorities could still be elsewhere. I look forward with interest to clubs with salary cap issues promptly resolving them, then I look forward with interest to free agency next year, then I look forward with to the first lot of Gold Coast Suns young guns coming out of contract also next year.

Am glad we still have plenty of cash in our pockets and worthwhile items to trade in this unending game.

P.S Hope if we go after those so far mentioned i.e. Lisle / McCarthy we would be talking only 3rd maybe 2nd rounders. Doesn't appear they would be future premiership winners from what I have seen so far.

Never mind!

GWS will burn when there VIC kids want to come home. They will all be wanting to come to the Dee's.

Be patient Melbourne!

We are the competions biggest threat! And they know it.

hahahaha like the last 45 years!!

Our mid first round pick could end up being potentially pick 12/13 if you include ladder positions and all other PP's and CP's being activated for next years draft, after first round pick would then be around pick 15-20. Hardly world beaters. Putting it into context, we got Bate and Dunn with similar picks in 2004. The MFC and supporters are putting too much importance on these picks.

Tend to agree. Unless of course they're used in pretty decent trades to obtain quality. But history tells us that the elite don't fall often at these numbers, if at all. Then again, it's apparently a quality field next season.

The lowest GWS pick INSIDE 25 is 14.

Melbourne also offered pick No.12 but wanted a draft selection inside the top 25 in return.

Interesting the assumption that Adelaide will take Crouch.

They probably will, but I'm sure they expressed interest in Kennedy a while back.

Would be worth trying to get third spot just on the chance Crouch is still there.

I think that the mini-draft next year will be more likely to reap better results for our compo picks as the main draft, being stronger and uncompromised, will have few clubs prepared to trade away a top ten pick for a U 17 yr old... hence our compos will have greater currency. MN and TH have been reading Micks new book...

Firstly, I don't get the idea of it being a fair "auction" if GWS themselves determine what's the best bid. Who works out whether 10 and give back 14 is better than 12 and give back 25?

Secondly, isn't the complicating factor that these compo picks are determined by finishing order in the year they're taken? That makes the picks much more speculative. If Adelaide finish bottom next year and we finish, say, 7th, isn't their compo pick then worth a lot more?

As to first point what is wrong with the seller determining his price. Isn't that what usually happens?

As to second point the compo picks were the pick after where you finished but we also had a mid ladder compo. Maybe GWS thought Crows would finish much lower than Dees next year.

maybe, but then we have to wait till 2014 before we can play him (at the earliest).

we need class sooner than later

Maybe the MFC, the ones who are professional and do this for a living, just didn't think he was worth throwing everything at. I trust that they know whats best and what he is worth.

A lot on here seem to watch some YouTube clips and get caught up in the media frenzy over a kid who still has a year before he can even play!!

Didn't they try to get crouch in the 5 way deal that was knocked back by the AFL. They will take him if the get pick 2.

Redleg there is not too many spots below us.

18 th GWS

17 th Port

16 th GWS

15 th

14 th

13 th

12 Dees

That leaves 3 spots for Adelaide, Not much in it IMO

We do need class. Midfield class. Hopefully it comes sooner, rather than later.

Don't restrict yourself to the midfield H_T

There are 4 -5 other spots that need a large injection of class

Me too BB but there is not much in it.

you reckon ? I think we'll finish a lot higher that that lot..seriously

I don't understand what you are saying.

Sorry for being obscure.

IMO we will be no higher than 12th that only leaves 3 spots below us for Adelaide.

Not a lot better deal if GWS think a future Adelaide pick is better than one from the MFC.

Does that explain it?

No.

They tried to get pick 2 in the mini draft. They don't have to take Crouch with it.

They probably will take him, but no one is locked into any particular position.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
