True, doesn't mean the guy can't coach... With leatherface bringing in the likes of Kent Kingsley, and Greg Miller picking the likes of Tambling over Buddy, what hope did he have? I don't think even Norm Smith as an assistant at that club would've been able to do much.

His insights in the media this year have been fantastic, head and shoulders above anyone else I've heard exit coaching and enter the media... He's tasted success from his playing d faays at North, If he's in a coaching department that's well run and heading in the right direction, I think he'd be a fantastic asset to the club.

Let's not forget that Mark Neeld emphasised that he wanted people who knew ( and expected success). Kingy's success as a player might be a be a bit too far in the past now. But he shows a great understanding of the game

He coached Carey Grammar between media commitments this season .... and got rave reviews. If word goes from Jack to Todd .... and then to CS ... he could be in the mix?

If Maxie doesnt get a look in at the Sainters I wouldnt mind him crossing the tracks to us either ( Thats Hudhgton ) . Is well regarded at the Filth.

Don't know much about his coaching traits but I reckon he has to be one of the most under-rated defenders to play the game. His closing speed and abilty to spoil without much contact were second to none.

I'd be open to Gary Ayres as Defense coach

I also Harrison!

His coaching ability is obvious see Port Melbourne. Also watched some of him in the 93 GF amazing

When you watch him playing the man was an absolute desperado for the ball and the contest

We could do much worse in my opinion

He also brings some much needed hardness and mongrel to the game. He still looks and acts like he played

Its sort of interesting in a fashion that nothings been announced yet. Leads one to suspect the candidates are still 'live' somewhere.

Tom Harley will be out of a job, seeing that ch10 no longer will have any coverage. Premiership captain as a back. Would love to have him at the demons

Minor quibble. Tom Harley works for Channel 7...though perhaps you think he's getting the chop to allow one of Channel 10's special comments team to transfer.

On the question of his suitability as a coach - I'm not against him as an individual, but with a Senior Coach new to the job, I suspect an experienced assistant might be more valuable at this time.

In an ideal world I would be over the moon if our coaching setup looked like...

Forwards: I think we should go hard after Sumich. Well regarded, would help him by getting involved at another club, rather than living in the West Coast bubble. Would love him as the forward line coach.

Defenders: David King. Highly impressive on Fox Sports, perfect man to coach the backline, wouldn't be hard to get and would be cheap too.

I'd also go for Dean Laidley as Director of Coaching/Opposition Analysis. Achieved a lot with little resources at North, and is known for his strength tactically.

David King coached the Carey Baptist XVIII footy team this year. Best friend's brother ran around for the team and having a kick with him he mentioned what a coach he was. Said he'd never met someone with such an amazing grasp of seriousness and mateship. Was an absolute great guy with all the boys but when it came to crunch said what he had to say and left no stone unturned. Apparently was also ultra aggressive very angry and very firm in the feeling that if a fight eventuates in the game, every player go in and back up your team mate. There is a coach I can warm too.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
