Of course it's a fail, we've been without a sponsor for months now and it doesn't appear as though we're close to getting a new one. I appreciate it's an economic downturn and am sure they are working hard but it is a complete fail at the moment if you ask me.

Last time we were lukcy that a long time supporter of the club stepped in and some bloke got pi$$ed in bar (or something) to land the other one for us. It's very concerning imo and is costing the club $$ each and every day it isn't sorted out.

The suggestion is we are trying to get a Chinese company over the line.

I have a modest amount of dealings with Chinese companys and no where near this value level.

However what I do know is that they will take their time, they do not operate on the same time scale as Barbarians.

With the amount of money involved they will not care that the season is only a few weeks away.

They will make the decision in their own time.

This will be a very delicate situation

If it takes 2 months that is the time frame.

If you push you will lose.

If it is a large amount by a major company we will just have to suck it up and wait.

If the MFC pulls it off they will have made a very big score.

To my knowledge there are no Chinese sponsors anywhere in the Australian landscape.

So Harcourt take a bex and have a good lie down.

Believe me the last thing you would do is push for a decision.

I believe the Chinese businessmen also prefer to do business with the person rather than the company. This would mean they negotiate with Cameron Schwab and rely on the good faith and word of CS, instead of dealing with the MFC. I also agree that negotiations that can take a long time.

OK it seems that I'm just about the only one slightly concerned about this - fair enough.

I hope this Chinese sponsor supposedly taking their time ends up signing or we may be without one for half the year by the time we get into negotiations with other parties - that might end up costing the club a whole lot more than it has already.

It's certainly isn't lost on me that this is the second time running we've been in a race against the clock to get a sponsor before the start of the season.

Harcourt I share your concern but if we are chasing a major Chinese sponsor it is not easy at all.

In fact it is probably the hardest to pull of.

If we want a major Chinese sponsor then it is a long hard wait.

Get them and you are covered in glory miss out and you are a feather duster.

I pray we are not the later.

Totally agree with your comments regarding the Chinese being very tough to deal with and/ or hard to pull off. I can speak from personal experience.

If they can pull it off and it could be a long term relationship then we're going to be a very very good position going forward. It's a high risk high reward strategy in my eyes.

Don't get me wrong I have faith in CS but I'm getting nervous (again).

Anyway, I'm off to have a bex and a lie down as advised yesterday.

Hisense arena?? A multi million dollar 6 yr deal....

Jan 24: China Southern Airlines has signed on as the sponsor for the Sydney Festival for the next three years and believes Australia is on the cusp of a travel boom that will see one million Chinese visiting Australia by 2020.

Anyone seen the behind the scenes video of the 2012 team photo on the melbournefc site? I know our jumper looks better without sponsors pasted over the front, but in this day and age it's a bit embarassing... will look very poor if we run out like that in the NAB cup.

True. Really shouldn't be so difficult to get the colours right, every other side with red in their jumper seem to get the job done.

im as anxious as anyone to know who our sponsor will be, having already pre ordered my jumper im hoping an announcement is not too far away

Wasn't trying to be a smart alec about:) They are difficult to deal with and one thing I have learned is it ain't over until it's over. When it's signed you can relax because up until that point anything goes.

But there is no doubt the CHinese companies are looking at this market for sponsorship.

Did not think you were being a SA.

We agree on the rest

But I had forgotten about Hisense.

SF I did not know about.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
