Foss asked the hard question at the start and pushed him regarding the coach issue. Garry looked [censored] off at him for bringing it up, then followed up with a 'hopefully an announcement next week'. JB asked if it could be Thursday and Garry didn't respond.

So we may have a new coach by then...

If it's to be either Malthouse or Lyon, you wouldn't think it's be next week...

Seriously think Scott Burns is being looked at closely, and Barrett just backed that up on TFS.

Amazing how perceptions differ.

Didn't think much of what Gary said was overly interesting. He said it would hopefully be sooner rather than later but that they hadn't narrowed down to 1 or 2 yet and it was unlikely to be ratified before next week

So in summary, still interviewing, no public announcement (officially) at least for another week or two.

he clearly said he didnt think it would be next week!

It would want to be someone who warms the cockles of the faithful because if we lose our no.1 draft pick and name an uninspiring coach within the space of 10 days membership will drop 30% heading into '012.

I clearly heard him say he'd try to make it on a Thursday Striker. Not that I think it makes a lick of difference. Think it will all come down to finals results, or at least, I hope it does B)

I didnt see the show.. but its entirely possible that you could announce ( on a particualr day ) that the proces is drawing to a close but the revelation will be made at another time.

I would presume it is very reasonable to sugest it all comes down to finals results. If an established senior coach ( of worthy merit ) it would practically have to. Unless taken form the 2nd tier currently.

I got the feeling other than the initial few minutes, that he felt within himself kind of Calm. The sort of calm when you've achieved what you wanted to recently, and can now put the feet up and have some fun...

I wonder if he's got his fish,k and now will play games to burn up some time prior to an announcement? Poss after the GF?

As a Melbourne supporter buying a membership isn't an option anymore. Best way to make the club better than it is is to hand over the money.

I would hope the decision that is made on a coach does not have any relevance in Garrys mind with announcing it on the footy show. Hopefully he is smart enough to be able to differentiate the two different hats that he wears.

I dont care when its announced, as long as the board are happy they believe it is the right person for the job (and not a shallow feelgood PR exercise).

The only thing I found interesting with Gaz's comments was when he was discussing The Bombers improvement.

He seemed to go out of his way to highlight the great job Bomber Thompson had done

as part of Sir Jame's coaching staff.

I just found that intruiging.

Could Bomber be our Man?

Still could be a well directed red herring :)

I doubt it, bomber has maintained that he will never coach again.

And that once he finished at Geelong that was it.

Oh I see!

was talking to someone who knows a fair few people connected to the club and he seemed to think we will name viney as our coach with a big name assistant. Wait and see i suppose but that would fit with what he said.

If this is the case, I really hope Neil Craig will be in the background in some capacity.

If this club signs another unexperienced coach after losing Scully, it just be the last straw for me. I'd rather them re-sign Viney.

What is the correlation between an inexperienced coach and losing Scully? What is the obsession with an experienced coach. I want the best coach - maybe that is Lyon or Malthouse but maybe that is Scott Burns. I could think of nothing worse than us ignoring an up and comer and choosing Eade because he has experience or Viney just because its easy.

Barrett also said that Green was disillusioned with the MFC. A statement which Garry immediately refuted. Don't believe every you hear/read from the media.

This.

Go hammer and tong for Malthouse and/or Lyon, fine. Plan C must be the best up and comer, and it needs to have some groundwork laid now in case plans A and B fall through.
