Casey Scorpions in VFL First Qualifying Final

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

The VFL finals series starts on Saturday and the Casey Scorpions are involved in two ripper games at TEAC Oval.

The Reserves are matched against the Coburg Tigers in the 11:00 am curtain raiser followed by the Seniors who take on the undefeated Port Melbourne at 2:00 pm in a qualifying final.

The Scorpions lost narrowly to the Borough at the same venue when they met early in the season on a day when Casey gave away a big start to the home side. Both teams are in good form and the fixture should draw a big crowd if the weather holds up.

As always thanks KC for your updates.

Its interesting that two of the favourites for the Liston are:

$7 Brock McLean

$9 Shane Valenti

And I have not tracked him this year but PJ a former Liston winner is not even in the odds for the trophy. Is he injured atm and for most of the season?

Scoop Junior who was on crutches, saw PJ somewhere and they were comparing broken foot stories, so that could be the answer.

The same Paul Johnson that got upgraded to Hawthorns main list and is selected to play against the Suns on Saturday?

At full-forward, too :)

No doubt I'm tuning in on Saturday.

Who according to the AFL teams page is a new Hawthorn player recruited from West Coast!

Redleg didn't say when they saw each other. You'd think to win the trophy you'd need to play nearly all games.

I think you'll find that PJ was injured early and is now back.

Recruited from WC?? Amazing.....

Recruited from WC?? Amazing.....

Obviously the one game that he played at WC was more outstanding than the 68 that he played with us.

I liked PJ but we all know his limitations and he's done well for himself to break into the Hawthorn team this week. Still, it's a one off and I doubt that he would be good enough to displace either of the ruckmen we have at the MFC at the moment let alone hold his place in the Hawks' team for the finals series.

Indeed, he would struggle for a senior game at Casey. There's no way he would be selected over the bloke who's playing FF there ATM while Max Gawn's ruckwork and aerial power is far superior and he's just as good at ground level. Since overcoming his Achilles injury, Robbie Campbell has been most impressive in the ruck and around the ground. So much so that I think the club should definitely keep him for next year with him possibly getting games and taking a leadership role. I know that might sound crazy but he's there in our backyard, is a premiership ruckman with a good reputation and character and I'm sure he wouldn't let us down.

Correct as usual Fan. Scoop Junior saw him about 2 months ago. PJ asked him what he had done as SJ was on crutches. When SJ said he had broken a bone in his foot PJ said he had the same injury earlier in the year.

Not as bad as other years.

Really Fitzpatrick is the only real loss. sorry forgot Bate.

Bail has only played one game and that was last week.

Adults $15, Concession $10, under 15 free.

Parking is all on street, but in previous years has been all day so you shouldn't need to worry about getting a ticket, might need to park a few blocks away though. Otherwise, take the 109 tram.

I was certain last week that Casey would struggle with only 10 AFL listed players against the Bullants' 15 but they were brilliant in winning by 100 points. It's a far more difficult ask this week with even less AFL players at their disposal but even if they lose they should have plenty of numbers available in the later weeks of the finals series.

KC, what are the rules for the VFL finals regarding AFL player selection?

There are no rules for this week - anyone not in the Melbourne team to play Port Adelaide can play with Casey.

Once your AFL aligned team is out of business then the eligibility rules apply and I'll write about them next week.

In the Ressies, Casey started well - 6.0.36 to Coburg 1.2.8.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
