The MFC must be trying very hard then...

Don't put that on us, or the club, just because you see it a completely different way to others.

Not getting Fevola means we are more concerned with PR than a flag is BS.

Oh don't be Mistaken,,,, this Message has absolutely NOTHING to do with FEV !!! And Everything to do with the Conservativeness and the Cosyness, the too much comfortzone = Complacency!

* Don't Lose this in any FEV discussion, as he has nothing to do with the last 45 Years.....

God he is not another skinny 17 year old is he?

I know most are but can we please get someone of size who is ready to start in 2012 or 13 not 2016.

Yep- Fevola in a later pick.Todd is a very good pick.Athletic tall whom can ruck as well.

Fevola is not required.

Fevola is not elite.

Fevola is not going to last.

Fevola is just not.

I'd be puking if we passed on an unknown quantity with all sorts of possibilities (Tupungwuti comes to mind, for example) mid-late in the draft for the sake of picking up an ugly brainfart version of Nick Sauntner.

Watch the VFL finals as Sam Blease and others stream downfield and deliver the ball to a large dominant full forward in... BRENDAN!!! whoooo hoooo Goals are kicked and the team wins...

Then imagine the same in Rd 1 2012 with both in red and blue with a pre-season and a new coach... whoo hooo Goals are kicked and the team wins...

Come on Dees bring on Fev and entertain me

No, but he will if you get your way...

It's funny how we have this awful culture, a curse since '65, that dooms our present, clouds our future, and decisions like getting Fev is going to cahnge it?

Our awful culture is the fault of those at the club now (I put the blame at the feet of our senior players and the FD because they should have better) and not some abstract, endemic lack of boldness attached to the club.

I say 'No' to Fevola because we have got a culture to build, not to test.

Clubs that can handle him should take him.

The culture that the MFC should be aspiring to is one that sets itself challenges that will improve the team and then set about meeting these challenges. Every challenge faced expands the capacity and confidence of the group, team, organisation.

Bringing on Fev is simply one of those challenges that will expand our club and if it goes well will improve our club in the short term. It is one of many challenges that the MFC face, and will face, on our way to climbing the mountain that is a premiership.

The culture we want is to believe we can overcome these challenges and to become hungry for any challenge that may improve us.

Adversity and challenge reveal character, it doesn't build it.

You cannot test the culture of this team - it's not ready.

It's embroyonic, or if you are looking at Rivers, Moloney, Davey, and the coloured one - it's pathetic.

We are not ready to tame Brendan Fevola.

Ah you mischievous Man. My Post is Not about Fev, & I won't Lose one Iota of sleep if he goes elsewhere.

My post is about recruiting some with attitude,,, some with Ruggedness,,, & some with Flair = Extroverted forwards like the Franklins/Farmers/Jakovich's/StevieJ's/... I didn't right it about Fev At All... But about our Failings to become a power Club for 45 Years and the reasons why.

This is a 2012 & beyond, Recruiting Thread, not a FEV thread.

So I don't want us to be too bland again, & play safe again just like Green, & Bruce, & Yze ended up, & White, & we all saw what happened when Schwartz lit up the MCG in the '90's, didn't we. But tell me why he wasn't so respected by the Eestablishment??? Farmer???

Plaid or Tweed hey, that s the way, hey, back to the future.

Afraid I don't agree with your first statement. Character is built one challenge overcome at a time and it is constantly tested by these challenges. The current leadership rot at the MFC will be resolved by a new coach and firm gameplan/ discipline etc... Viney has already made progress by informing (by team omission and the Subs vest) the team what level of performance is required.

Your statement that MFC is "not ready to tame Brendan Fevola" implys we have to tame Brendan Fevola. Recruiting him would be a low cost (therefore low risk) calculated gamble with a large potential upside (we get a gun FF for 2-3 years). Unlike Brisbane we won't be gambling the house on him delivering us a flag, and unlike Carlton we are not responsible for nor dependent on Brendan for our future.

So we take Fev with the clear condition that he presents at the MFC as a "self-tamed" professional footballer (and person) or he not bother. If he steps outside of clearly prescribed boundaries (set by the coach) he is dropped and/or sacked...

The downside is the same as it was this year with Campbell...

We need experience and big bodies.

Yes that's along the lines I'm thinking ...

In terms of leadership and experience.

Would you guys be interested in Brendan Goddard ? Silly question I know.

But as far as I know, he is putting off talks with St.Kilda and is out of contract next year. He stated earlier in the year (I cannot find the article(s) as yet) something which struck me at the time as to one who may move on.

I wonder if making the necessary enquiries to his management and perhaps an offer of the captaincy might interest him - if that a move is his intention.

I would go for him absolutely.

In fact, I said in another thread that I would be happy to compromise with the "Get Fev Brigade" if we get Thompson, Cornes, and Goddard.

Get those three - make Thompson captain and we can get Fevola.

Everyone happy now?

http://www.theroar.com.au/2011/06/14/st-kilda-saints-should-trade-goddard-to-gws/

“For me personally, I’m as loyal as they come but at some stage players are going to start thinking about their future and life after football is a lot longer than life in it,” he said. “I believe I’ve given everything I can to this footy club and they’ve given back to me as well.”

At the very least it showed he is open to the idea of switching clubs.

Goddard is contracted at St Kilda for next season, meaning GWS can’t do an Ablett-style signing at the end of this year. However, the Giants have a two-year window for such deals and may nab him a year later. Under these circumstances, the Saints would receive the same compensation Geelong received for losing Gary Ablett.

So basically, if St Kilda don’t act this year with a trade, they might lose him anyway a year later and get less in return.

When I read this again (admittedly 2 months later), I immediately thought about the rumours regarding the "big fish"...

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
