I really hope Schwab doesn't go, enough though we are still a rabble, the club was in terrible shape before he came along. If the players are still upset by what happened to Junior and taken aback by Schwab wanting them to be accountable for the rubbish they have served up for the past 5 years then i would be happy for them to be shown the door.

Tony Shaw and Robert Walls were shocked that such a thing could occur as would every other Melbourne person. She is reporting that all sorts of meetings involving Melbourne powerbrokers have been occuring in the last 12 hours.

I believe the link is that there have been misgivings about Cameron Schwab's heavy involvement in the actual playing football side of things.

Don't mean to put a TS comment in this thread, but just want to report Caroline's comments this morning on 3AW. She stated that Tom Scully would stay at the MFC if Cameron Schwab left.

Did she elaborate on how CS involved himself in the "actual playing football side of things". Did he devise the tactics and strategies that have failed miserably this year? Did he move the cones and witches hats at training?

WTF did he do that would cause the players to [censored] in the faces of their supporters like they did yesterday if it's true they pulled up?

No player goes out onto the ground and doesn't try. There are obviously major problems with motivation coming from the coaching staff. And the lack of basic skills is astonishing. But I'd never believe that players don't try their hardest.

You only need to drop off 10% for a hiding like that. However i would hate to think that any melbounre player would throw a game. Maybe they got confused with the Palyer Association's strike action call. They do have trouble following most instructions.

firstly without hearing Caroline Wilson's comments, I doubt she would've implied that the players played badly on purpose, but that they were disgruntled with the club and what had been happening, and that this has an impact on your motivation and work ethic to win the next ball and make the next contest...

whatever the case, there is a lot happening down at our club, a lot that needs to be resolved...

Just watched the Sunday footy show, and Damien Barrett said that there had been meetings happpening this week, that some want Schwab, Connolly and even Stynes gone... he said that Gary Lyon will be involved in some capacity, that some want him to coach but that's not a role that he'd be willing to accept...

what I find most upsetting about this whole situation, is the amount of work that Jim, Schwab and everyone involved in the club the last few years into bringing back everyone to the footy club, so heal the wounds of the past, bringing everyone together... it would seem that some new wounds have been created this season, lets hope they're not as damaging as they have been in the past...

If this article turns out to be true and Cameron Schwab's contract isn't renewed, I hold serious doubts that the Melbourne Football Club will ever recover completely and not be removed back to the VFL or fold in the next few seasons. Between Schwab and Stynes our club has had an enormous debt wiped out, more sponsorship and memberships then ever before and more stability than the glory days of the late 50's and early 60's. After a game like yesterday some serious questions need to be asked of the playing group and the coach should be replaced but to remove one of the key figures of our revival and a steadfast club man is an absolute and utter disgrace.

Interesting post with respect to China. During Caroline Wilson's monologue on 3AW, she put a comment about China and that the players were not happy (Tom Scully she made mention) about the trip and the length of the trip and how players felt it turned into a junket.

Jeez these boys have it tough

I'm astonished, if what Caro is saying is true.

I honestly believed that Cameron was doing a great job in the best interests of the club, and that he was a large part of our resurgence off the field.

If what Caro is saying is true, that he is on a power trip, that he is no longer wanted by the board and/or the players, then that is something I never would have seen coming.

Moreover, if it is true, we need to deal with it right now. If that means sacking him, so be it. If that means he has to walk away, whatever. But we are never going to go anywhere as a club if we don't have an administration that is functioning correctly.

Or it could go the other way and this episode in our history can be transformed into a catalyst for meaningful, permanent change at the Melbourne Football Club.

There's more than a touch of Mutiny on the Bounty about it all, don't you think? The tail wagging the dog?

Strong, courageous leadership is needed to set us on a new course. And the 'mutineeers' and incompetents need to be told in no uncertain terms to fark off.

Let's choose to look back on this weekend as the day the MFC said ... enough is enough!

So far, it is all hearsay! Just because Caroline Wilson 'intimates' something (the protest) does not mean it is true. I have no facts about what is going on. Havent seen anyone else putting too many facts out there. Mainly conjecture, innuendo and rumour.

I want to know what the hell is going on, and if any of this crap is real.

This season has the makings of a Michael Bay film. One needless explosion after the other. Are we entertained? Hell no.

Schwab's reputations speaks for itself. His business acumen is required if this club is to push forward. Without it we will have to cast our line into a pool of mystery to try and find a leader to pull this club out of the shitzz. Pretty doubtful really.

I blame Leading Teams

Hierarchy is a natural form of organisation

This circular philosophy of Leading teams where everyone has input delivers captains,

leadership groups and cultures like the one we currently have.

Too much self involvement and self protection nobody with the balls to take charge and lead.

in case they get criticised. By the playing group and given their open criticism to change the way

they go about it cause they ruffle feathers.

Leading Teams philosophy creates voids of leadership its pop psychology [censored]. Players need to

be told what to do when to do it and how and if they don't follow they get told to jump.

All this feedback this feedback that you give the leadership over to the players this is what

you get total self interest and preservation caring only about popular opinion.

Geez Caro wonder what her motivations might be? B)

SEN reporting that Schwab is being sacked right now at someone's house... according to posters on Bigfooty, it seems legit though...

Really didn't see the Cam Schwab thing coming at all despite several posts mentioning the football dept being too small .

I thought he was doing ok but maybe his ego went bananas or something ?

Maybe Caro Wilson is full of it .

If this is a Scully lead coup against the entire administration then maybe he is the messiah?

A political coup by a 20 year old injured player led to this?

Or is it this .

The "long term" strategy we have implemented in the Club ethos has robbed us of our short term need to survive ,compete ,win ,fight ,struggle until such time when we are "ready"?

Boys are boys and men are men as far as I know .

No more excuses about off field issues need be in the players mind when they play .

The players had no self respect out there .

Certainly none for their coach or supporters either .

Throw in the kids who show some pride in the jumper .

Green must be dropped ,Bailey Sacked .

Anything else I just dont know enough to comment on

Caro is usually spot on. CLubs leak like sieves.

she is... very good journo when it comes to the off field issues... doesn't actually know much about footy though...

anyway, don't doubt this story at all, this is happening, i have no doubt...

I'm really surprised about Schwab, especially after Stynes had gone to such great lengths to get him back. He's shown a real passion for the club and been so

good about communicating with the fans, even posting on Demonland from time to time.

I wonder if this relates to the loan he was reported to have taken from the club a few months ago.

Posted

Rumblings about Connolly I find less surprising. He was everywhere in his first season back at the club, but we've heard very little from him recently.

So Lyon doesn't want to coach, fair enough. Would he take CEO?

I don't really think Garry Lyon is qualified to be a CEO of a football club.

Director, sure. Coach, yes (but we know he doesn't want to coach). But CEO, no.

i really think Gaz needs to follow Jimmy's lead and get more involved here. He's in a really strong position to help the club.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
