Heath Shaw Suspended for Betting on his Own Team

Featured Replies

Is there a set sanction for this sort of breach of the rules?

Just seems a bit too perfect that eight weeks takes us to the end of the H+A season. Maybe just a little more of the AFL making up the rules on the run

Oh, that would have been another demand from Eddie.

Coincidence that he's back for the first week of finals?

What a magnificently bad 24 hours for the Filth.....demon_cool.gif

May it continue unabated. A Shaw suspended for 8 weeks is music to my ears.

I remember Ray Shaw back in the 70's....evil little creature...

Sleep well tonight Eddie....demon_laugh.gif

Can you remember when you were 5 WYL?

Had to sub out Shaw for Nick Lower - thats a fair and equal sub - NOT

and I have got no trades left - DOH

Meh happened before! A big red head full back went forward and kicked the first goal from an interstate team and they whole team was involved.

But Seriously how stupid in this day an age to do something. I feel sorry for MAxwell as I dont think he was involved but his name will be brought up in it.

He is Collingwood remember!

Beat me to it old dee!

Live Pies presser on ABC News 24 now.

From the presser:

Eddie's face was as red as the red on this website.

Maxwell seems honest enough: he did what he usually does, and I suspect what most players usually do, and talked about the game with his family. He didn't expect, and seemingly had no reason to expect, the family members to go and bet, and so it's hard to really say he did too much wrong, hence the lack of a suspension.

Shaw is simply a numbskull. He was at the TAB. His mate said 'I'm gonna put $10 on Maxy, you want in?'. And he said 'sure' and handed over $10. What an absolute idiot.

Those who think there's something in the fact that Shaw gets back for finals should note that he's banned from both AFL and VFL. Come the finals, he'll have been out of the game for 8 weeks. He'll be lacking match fitness, conditioning, and game touch. You only need to look as far as Alan Didak to see how losing your game touch can affect your performance. With Collingwood's depth, he's facing an uphill battle to play again this year IMO.

I wonder how Mick rates this compared to Addam Maric's "cheating" effort

Not a problem he plays for Mick's team.

It will be the same next year when he is coaching the Dees!

Ray played in the 77,79,80, & 81 GF's old dee. I went to them all. My first Granny was 1970 as a 6 year old.

AFL making the rules up on the run !!!

What an absolutely outlandish scurrilous suggestion - I am sure you are the one and only person to have been ever thinking anything at all like that!

Does that mean that you were born in 64?

And you have your Granny to blame for all the years of misery WYL.

To answer your comment yes he was a [censored].

Only joking about your age mate.

It's funny, i was born in 1963 and my first Granny was 1988 ;)

I decided to wait until we made it; thought that I would wait forever.

Edited by why you little

Removing a couple of mice so as not to upset the elephant in the room.

Getting 8 weeks with 8 weeks left of their season - coincidence.

Love the fact that Betting odds are spewing loudly from SEN as we speak....they are the scurge of this city...Ramped up incredibly over the last decade...

Believe me you are still a pup mate.

Sorry i confused your comment re Granny thought your Grand mother took you.

I was there in 70 almost as good as beating collingwood ourselves.

Can you remember what part of the ground you where in?

I think we were in the top of the Northern Stand mate.....My memory of the day is wild, it is all in B & W in my head, but i shall never forget the noise!

Dad told me i must barrack for Barassi's Carlscum....so i did.

My first live game of footy.

Traded him into my dreamteam this morning. EPIC FAIL!

Same here, all after i said at the end of last season 'I will never again pick heath shaw' D'oh

I can't believe how soft the AFL is with this, this isn't the first time Shaw has brought the game into disrepute, lied about the parked car fiasco and now this, must be family thing Tony Shaw's quote...."On the positive I guess there's plenty of time to freshen up for finals." How arrogant is that !

This really sticks in my craw, should have rubbed out for a season !!!!!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
