presser at 3:45pm. Apparently he put a bet on Nick Maxwell to kick the first goal when he started in the foward line I think against Adelaide.

Not sure how much was put on but its a pretty stupid thing to do. Didnt he learn from the car incident a few years ago. You cant get anyway with anything Heath.

It's mind boggling that an AFL player could be that stupid, it's the AFL equivalent of the 'no ball' scandal in cricket recently.

If the AFL are fair dinkum then he's gone for a full season at least

Did he get done for substance abuse at the same time? Maxwell to kick the first goal?

Bloody serious this, now I have to bring Chippa into my supercoach side.

That an AFL player would do this is just beyond stupidity.

That this AFL player was Heath Shaw makes it a bit more understandable. Wow, what a special unit he is.

Iknow I just did my 2 trades for the round and I have to leave Heath in.

Anyway 14 match suspension and 6 of that he doesnt have to do. So Heath is out for the next 8 matches. That is huge plus a fine. The thing is it was a $10 bet he chipped in some more with some mates because he passed the info on. What an idiot. Well Heath when you are sitting there for the next 8 weeks I hope the $10 bet was worth it. Its not like he won anyway because Nick didnt kick the 1st goal. I guess you can thank your mates to.

Nick Maxwell got just a fine because he actually didnt put a bet on. The thing is though if the coach came to me and said for somehting different im starting you foward instead of back, id go home and say to my family im starting foward, watch me kick 5. I guess he probably didnt think anything of it when he told his family.

Maxwell has been fined $10,000, $5000 of which has been suspended.

The AFL said Maxwell had no knowledge or intent that information about his starting position would be used for betting purposes.

SO WHY IS HE BEING FINED

edit: because maxwell's family put bets on too.

but i didnt know they came under the banner of footballer or club official......

"AFL footballers are banned from gambling on football as are AFL and club officials."

Traded him into my dreamteam this morning. EPIC FAIL!

Thats why you gotta tweak your team just prior to the bounce for Friday night footy.

Shaw cops 14 weeks, six suspended, for betting on an AFL game using inside information. Sounds fair enough to me, given the size of the bets ($20). Maybe a few more of the weeks should be active rather than suspended.

Maxwell cops just a fine. Seems like he didn't know the information was being used to lay bets. Again, the fine is $10,000 so to me that's fair enough.

Shaw is an idiot, pure and simple.

A bit of a coincidence isn't it that both of them - independently apparently- either bet or had family members bet on their behalf??

If you believe in the tooth fairy.

I smell a rat......

What a joke this suspended sentence thing is............he should be serving 14 weeks for sheer stupidity!

Missing finals should have been part of the punishment for being an idiot.

And now we get the press conference with Heath claiming how he has a gambling problem, he is going to be undergoing counselling etc etc.

Effectively insider trading as well as betting - all the ethics and intelligence for which Collingwood is famous

how the [censored] does maxwell get a fine for this????

If it was Trengove he would be out for 5 years and then sent to GWS.

AA would say we change the rules last week you mean you missed the change!

this issue gets 10/10 for laughs

could it possibly happen to a nicer mob?

And back just in time for the finals what a coincidence!

Agree on Shaw. IMO the jury is out on Maxwell to for providing the information. Did he suggest to family/friend members to put bets on ?

You have to wonder about Maxwell though.

I'm dreaming of a quote from behind closed doors at an office within the Westpac Centre by someone on the line to Adrian Anderson...:

EM - "Give him a fine but go easy he is the Captain of the footy club, it would be an absolute disgrace to this great club and the AFL mind you, if it were known he was indeed a party to these bets !"

AA - "But Ed, the public is not that stupid!.."

EM - "one more word out of you and I'll start up a Super League, now do it !"

What a magnificently bad 24 hours for the Filth.....demon_cool.gif

May it continue unabated. A Shaw suspended for 8 weeks is music to my ears.

I remember Ray Shaw back in the 70's....evil little creature...

Sleep well tonight Eddie....demon_laugh.gif
