Important article in Fairfax press by a girl who does't like fruit peel in her Christmas Cake.

The Age once again dealing with the real news.

And the ever charming Clementine Ford wrote a gem about being lonely at Christmas (is it any wonder).

Well here's a mystery to be solved.

After a considerable hiatus, our most crass correspondent has returned.

Where have you been Biffen?

Moonie suggested on another thread that, due to various addictions, you had undergone a long period of rehab. Certainly plausible.

Whereas my contacts among your sordid social milieu claim that issues with law enforcement authorities have forced something of a hermit lifestyle upon you. Again plausible.

Perhaps you should take this opportunity and attempt to restore your  reputation to the level of merely odious.

I won't dignify your sordid imputations with a detailed response other than to say, in modern shorthand :

GAGF.

Supporting the MFC will do that to you Mr. Shadow.

There are many things that happens to those who support the MFC. Winning AFL grand finals is not one of them.

Across this summer season layoff where news of any kind is gold, yet hard to find, I just watched for the sixth time the Demonland Podcast of 'Rare Robbie Flower Highlights' - and it still makes me well-up inside, brings a tear to my eye and forces me to analyse in a myriad of ways just how good he was as a player and a team inspiration. Whilst this is a 'highlights' reel, there is so much of Robbie in this vault across so many games and against such talented opponents - all over the ground - that clearly confirm him as the best player I have ever had the privilege to see. For those who have not seen this podcast, may I strongly recommend it to you. Will there ever be another player this good?

His not that good, the Hawthorne sides that he played against had 10 to 15 players better the flower.

Up until this line, I had thought that this thread was way above any other on Land and I enjoyed the reading, innuendo and humour  far more than I should.  Am I missing the point in this comment ?

You are a very intelligent and perceptive person, as your post shows.

PS. The post about Robbie and more Hawthorn players being better was rubbish. He was brilliant on the footy field and modest and humble off it. A true champion and sadly missed.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom
