Tom Scully

Featured Replies

I think we got as much out of that 1 minute segment as we could have hoped for. Great to see Healy give Sheahan a hard time over his persistent questioning of Tom's character and then it was pleasing to hear Mike ask the question we all wanted to hear. Finally, we couldn't expect Lynch to provide us with a more reassuring response than he gave.

A Tom Scully thread was created specifically for discussion of ALL matters Tom Scully related... why start another topic????

Let's not celebrate because Lynch verbally farted something half reassuring...

We will deal with this in 3 months time and it will be a good time for Dees fans.

Why would anyone want to leave Serenity?

Mike: "I think he has made a commitment with GWS"

Gerard: "You just said Melbourne are negotiating a new deal with him!!!"

Mike: "Oh yeah, I did too."

Mike Sheehan = No idea.

Yeah, what hardtack said.

As opposed to "No,they should be really worried"

That would go down well with 8 games to go!

Why make a fuss on it; what's the big deal?? - relax!

Because this was the most significant comment made by a significant person in the negotiations - it was more than just rumour and innuendo.

FCS.

Merge.

And add to the dung heap people.

Stop squatting all over the place...

As opposed to "we will deal with this situation at the end of the year" and "I'm not going to discuss this issue until the end of the season" and "we are going to have to weigh up all the options".

Time for Mike to Retire....He is losing it.

One other thing that Lynch said was one of the reasons they decided last year to put the contract off was to see at the end of this year if he was just a number 1 draft or had lifted his profile above that, so they wanted to wait to see the best deal they could get on how well TS had developed.

As opposed to "we will deal with this situation at the end of the year" and "I'm not going to discuss this issue until the end of the season" and "we are going to have to weigh up all the options".

Agreed. He could have used all those lines and got away with it.

I could not imagine a professional manager building up expectations by saying what he did, if Tom had indeed signed with GWS.

Not to mention Tom himself saying he had not signed anything.

Actually he said optimistic, not confident.

He would be absolutely derelict in his duties as a manager to say anymore. I would even suggest that optimistic is a bit too much. Should have been a straight up 'no comment' a la Pickering last year regarding Ablett.

Nonsense... there was nothing stated that has not been stated before and certainly no real surprises... besides which, the reason a Tom Scully topic was started was to stop all of the spot fires starting up all over the place as was happening previously.

This story broke on the rumour file on Feb 1 2011, but there were whispers late last year about this offer from GWS.

Wolfmother.....weren't you the person who first raised this issue on Demonland last December, after a conversation with someone in the family?

My only connection to Tom's family and friends came from a brief meeting in late February. At that time they thought he'd stay. In fact the quote was 'what the $#&@ is going on here?' in relation to all the stories in the media. It was the first they'd heard of it.

I heard the rumour of 6 mil for 6 years on Xmas eve and spoke to Tom about it on Boxing day and he had a good laugh about it.... said he hadn't discussed a contract with Melbourne let alone GWS. Left it there as it wasn't a big deal until the rumour file and eddie started a [censored] storm. Since the rumours surfaced I spoke with Tom including last weeek and again he said he hasn't received anything.

whilst players like C.Ward at bulldogs have spoken to GWS twice which maybe means that Tom isn't a real target of GWS (obviously they would love him but aren't preapred to make him thee second highest player in the league like the media report)

Not sure how to do multi posts but Ron I think its great you share the information you hear (its all debatable). I appreciate you passing on such information because people of this site run in different circles and do hear things that others don't and as we are all MFC supporters we love hearing this stuff.

Jarka... loves playing football, loves the dees, loves the boys, hates the AFL fishbowl. Thinks bailey is a tactic genius for the modern game but isn't a big motivator ( ie ra ra sort of person like Beamer etc etc) although said 'you shouldn't need a coach to fire you up to play AFL'. Thinks there is a lot of pressure on Bailey and the board is heavily involved in the football department with stynes, Cam.S and board members always around which is unusual from what he hears occurs at other clubs. Very glad to be back playing as rehab sucked and thinks thee pressure for spot has increased the players following team rules. Said a lot of younger players got games over the last few years who didn't do what they were supposed to but because we were crap they didn't drop them, this is now happening which is better for the team. (I have posted this to show Toms a normal kid playing AFL football, don't try and now attack him from one or two sentences that I have wrote and twist into something its not. Most demonlander will enjoy seeing what some of the players think and I am happy to clarify anything but would hope people take it for what it is a bit of an insight.)

But Scully isn't Ablett.

Pickering couldn't say optimistic because he wasn't.

The fact Lynch said that could mean one of two things; he is either been told by Scully that he wishes to stay at Melbourne all things considered, or he is saying it to try and push GWS' offer even further (or indeed prompt them to give Tom an offer, which I believe they are yet to do).

Great post WM.

Thanks for the rest of the post but that bit in particular was good to see.

Thanks again WM, and Jaded well thanks for nothing. I am well aware of the differing circumstances between TS and Ablett. My post was related to the fact that imo Lynch would be derelict in his duties by saying anything.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
