Just watching the Fremantle game and why does BT hate us so much? Could not sound any less enthusiastic calling Melbourne games and loves to take little snipes at our players (Last quarter when Nicholson kicks the goal to put us 50 points up, he says 'The Dees just love it when a game is like this', not sure what other people think of that but to me he's saying we are just a bunch of downhill skiiers which may or may not be true but he says things like this every game).

Anyone else agree?

On this season alone he is right. We have been very much down hill skiers. That is what the consistency challenge is all about.

Our average winning margin is over 10 goals. But our average losing margin is also somewhere around 40-50 points i believe which is terrible.

When the gap closes between our best and worst and we become consistent with our effort then opinions will change. Until then, be prepared to keep hearing it...

I just finished watching the game, and I also squirmed when he said "the Dees love it when a game is like this". Pathetic and stupid comment from a group of commentators who couldn't have sounded more bored if they tried. I suppose all ex-players have a team or teams that they hate. Mark McClure (ABC or 3AW - I can't remember which) is the worst Melbourne hater. Called Moloney a C-grader at the start of the year. This from a bloke who was nothing more than gap-filler in a champion Carlton side, made to look good by a heap of stars like Jesalenko, Walls etc...

Without hearing it in context it's hard to say whether it was a slap aimed at us, but we do love it when the game is like that. If we play our style the way we want to we really hurt sides. Unfortunately we have a habit of falling apart if we are stopped from playing the game on our terms. I think as the side gets physically mature we will be able to impose our style on the game more and more and adapt better when it doesn't work.

Probably a fair comment even I find BT an insufferable toad.

BT is a peanut, just finished watching the replay, got our players wrong on so many occasions I lost count.

Wish he would go back to the nightshift on 927

WOWWEEEEE

I agree with BT. I turned to my uncle and with a chuckle I said 'f.. we're front runners'.

Give us an interstate team and a decent start and back us by 60+ every time.

I don't see it as that much of a bad thing, why not beat up on these teams that come here and don't take us seriously?

I just can't wait until we can absorb pressure from a top Vic team at the G and pull out a win.

Maclure does dish it up to the Dees but he has been better this year, and so has Alves. I wouldn't exactly say Maclure was a C Grader I have memories of him as a brilliant high marking centre half forward, esp. in matches against melbourne. i think he was also an excellent big game player, these are just memories.

I reckon he was a B-B+ player, but gee he is a negative, carping pain in the ar$e as a commentator. He is a less egotistical and slightly more mature Sam Newman in my opinion.

There is of course one way to shut them all up.

Start winning consistantly and start beating the better sides.

Then they will not have any ammunition.

We can then say "winners are grinners and BT and company can please themselves"

Tbh I reckon BT is totally right looking at this season. That all can change if we win Friday night and then start to string a few against the grain performances together.

Exactly

You can probably thank Danny Hughes.

Spot on. The Time has come for the team to perform in every game.

It has all been set up.

Yes they are still young, but so are lots of other sides.

Winning = Respect in AFL.

Taylor has sniped us for years .

Players and supporters .

i mentioned this BT stuff on the Gerard Healey thread and nobody said anything.

I dont particularly care that he doesn't like us, but it's fairly obvious. At least when we are on 7, bruce and denis nearly blow their loads when we play well, makes for much more entertaining tv

HaHaHa, I don't listen to his station. I prefer 774, or sen, @ a pinch MMM.

Brian Taylor's a spud. Nuff said!

McLure is a very good commentator. He doesn't talk in modern speak. just Straight & down to earth, tell it straight.

No room for pretences. Just honesty. No frills or sugar coating.

I actually don't mind MacLure either dee-luded. Might cop me a bit of derision on here, but hey, I said it. While I'm at it, I actually don't mind Robbo either. Wow, feels good to get those off my chest

Why take them seriously. The pies love it when the world hates them. Good teams are often hated. Get used to it. It lays ahead of us. Bring on the oposition. Let others hate us, we love the red and blue

McLure was a great footballer CHF. Just Effectiveness, No flash, Nil, just underrated effectiveness. Much of what he did went unnoticed as he didn't have great speed or overly tall but was a great workhorse and brought his more fancy teamates into the game and cleared their way for them.

He helped others to shine.

Most of all he helped his team WIN. Like I said, Effective.

I value anyone who has played and am interested in what they say. Others are just noise. I cann't believe how much I enjoy listening to Dermie, Lloydy,Leigh, Shawie, Roosie, Harf etc. Bartlett is too much of an AFL and rules committee man to enjoy and Walls is just too serious, but the greatest is THE OX FOLLOWED BY GARY. Other non players are just noise. Take themselves too seriously and trying to fulfil their own unsuccessful careers.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
