Thanks for the reports guys. Much appreciated.

Interested in Robbie Campbell. Was he moving freely?? He has the smarts and the experience so could be very valuable for us at the Dees....

Didn't watch much of the game but he executed some nice taps in the ruck. There was a short interview with him in the second quarter and he said he not playing just to make up the numbers and that he's aiming for an AFL return which was good to hear.

Collingwood at Casey Fields in June.

Would that be the furthest from the centre of the CBD that the Magpies have travelled so far in 2011?

garland and petterd will play next seniors week

warnock is trade bait and maybe bate too.....

Ricky Bobby will be back at AFL level very soon. He has been dominant today.

As much as I enjoy seeing Petterd tear the VFL up, I want to see him do it again next week, and potentially the week after that. I'm not a fan of people getting picked after one good game for Casey. It happened to Dunn last year, and look how that turned out.

I want our mid-tier players like Petterd to be putting in the effort at Casey before getting their reward, rather than, as has been the case for years, getting a game simply because there are spots in the side. Give those spots to the kids like Evans, Nicholson, Strauss, Gawn and Howe instead.

Lucas Cook is also looking great. Come 2012 he'll be a regular at AFL level. There's no doubt in my mind he'll make the grade.

This raises a question in my mind;

Hypothetically, if we were to acquire another tall forward, say Tom Lynch from GC - would you play all 3 in the forward line (Watts, Cook, Lynch) or would you play Watts on a wing, or HBF or something?

I'd be thinking Cook deep FF, Lynch CHF and Watts on a wing.

It's just that, Watts & Cook are very close to the same age and have a lot of years ahead of them. It's conceivable that we will have another gun forward pop up over that time and will find ourselves with this kind of "problem".

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here.

Petterd should play Monday he has plenty of recovery time.

He has been a problem for the pies in the past, disappointed

Total rubbish.

Commentators also saying how good Warnock is and that ALOT of AFL clubs would kill to have him play FB, he is good but i find he struggles at AFL (a little), dominates VFL tho

This shows you how much the commentators know about Warnock: they're VFL commentators, so they see him play VFL, not AFL.

Warnock showed when he was in the side recently that he is a liability with the ball and makes basic skill errors that cost us goals. His size and one-on-one work are good, and that might appeal to clubs when they see him use it effectively at Casey, but at AFL level they aren't enough.

Cook kicked four and should have had more (and that rotten Fevola stole a mark off him in the second).  The stats have him at only 81 kg but it looks like he can play football.  I'm happy to have him spend the rest of the year at Casey.  He's got good hands, good feet and a good head.  He just needs to bulk up and improve the defensive side of his game.

Looks a serious prospect. Like you, though, I'm happy for him to spend a year at Casey developing.

Not sure where this myth began, well I do, but it's conpletely unfounded.

ABC commentators absolutely creaming over Cook... one seems to have ties with him, and mention that "Cooks manager is very excited by his prospect" anyone hear this comment??

I think his manager was actually commentating, Marty Pask.

Why Petterd is not in the seniors is beyond me. Is so far above this level its not funny. Seems to get dropped immediately after a quiet game. Mind you those games where when we got belted and he was playing predominantly as a forward.

We will see Cook sooner rather than later.

Watching the game on TV, you can see why the club is filthy on Casey for recruiting Fevola.

I know Cook did well, but you just kept thinking how many more marking contests he could have contested and been the focal point for had Fev not been there. Yes, in a sense he may get more opportunity because Fev is there, but I think it clearly stifles his and other young forwards' learning... aside from the type of bloke Fev is....

Kelvin Lawrence injured again.

Anyone know what injury Lawrence received?

Dunn played career best football after his bag of 8 goals in the VFL which saw him get a recall straight away last year. His form's been terrible this year, but using him as an example from last year is a terrible one, on that basis Petterd should be recalled for sure.

Personally I'm happy for Petterd to come in next week if someone gets either injured or has a poor game. But if there's no injuries, we have a win and all players continue to play well then by all means he can have another week in the VFL.

Round 2 last year Petterd was our best with 4 goals and kept Shaw quiet also as our defensive forward.

Petterd is way way way too talented to be in the vfl for too long.

Like Morton and Bennel (who are both bona fide afl players), they needed to be taught a lesson about forward pressure... but he needs to be back at afl level asap.

He's very talented player

Petterd looks a yard quicker at VFL level, gets a bit exposed when "chasing" at top level.

But he can play in most areas, so if Howe keeps him out, he could be used down back or even rotated from a flank through the middle.

I hope Petterd and Howe keep Bate and Dunn far back in the queue. While Bate looked good at times today, his handball and slow mind were terrible at other times, and he's completely dropped away at top level.

Dunn could kick 10 and I still wouldn't give him a game. Trade.

Blease's speed today was great to see, the leg is holding up. Get the kicking right and he'll be icing.

Cook was very good, knows where to go and what to do. Very promising.

I like Davis and McDonald too, think McDonald will make a very good KPP one day.

Warnock was also excellent, but not one I want to see in the seniors bar injuries.

First time I've seen Petterd play full time mid. Looked good with clearances and his work in traffic. BOG. Def needs that second string as he goes cold in fwd 50.

Warnock marked everything. Can't have more then one Warnock in your team and some teams do miss that shut down KPP. Gold Coast would love a Warnock. No doubt GWS will grab someone like him cause GC have been raped back there.

Blease's kicking started terribly, missing targets, kicking over heads, shanking it for goals. Pace is good. Not sure what happened to his kicking. Needs a bigger tank and work rate.

Beg to differ Choko. I think Fev played a strong role in the way the forward line performed today. He kept the opposition's best defender occupied and was unselfish in his play. Fev has two Coleman Medals under his belt and has plenty to teach the other forwards and you're underestimating Cook's intelligence if you think he could be swayed by "the type of bloke Fev is" (whatever that might mean).

I'm a Blease fan and only watched the first half, but he was horrible.

I've got the rest of the game taped and will watch with interest.

Beat me to the punch WJ.

choko if you had been watching closely, and even listening, you might have noticed the work Fev was doing to create opportunities for his team mates. Conversely I am sure Cook was doing the same thing when Fev and Dunn appeared the main targets inside the arc.

While I don't see Fev as a viable option for the MFC at AFL level; if he doesn't get another AFL gig I would be happy to have him as a 'playing' in the forward line for Casey.

Go Dees

How were McDonald and Davis? Particularly McDonald. If this kid keeps coming through with the goods, Warnock could become much less required for depth, putting him open to be traded.

Warnock is already on the trade table.

is he? we don't know what the club is thinking and from what I've read, fans are divided about whether we keep him for depth or offload him

I agree H. He does some nice things second half but he had an absolute mare. He also refuses to chase on numerous occassions. If his name was Strauss there would a thread of its own saying how he should never play for the Dee's.

Dunn's 'career best football' wasn't that good, and didn't translate into a career.

My point was that he played one good game, got selected, and then wasted a spot for the rest of the year that could have been given to a kid. I made that point because if we bring Petterd back it will be at the expense, most likely, of a kid like Nicholson, Strauss, Evans or Howe, and I'm not convinced that after one good game he deserves to kick out a kid.

I think that's a fair call. Blease is fit now, and not progressing as well at Casey as maybe he should be, but by virtue of his injuries, he is getting off lightly, with most still believing he's going to come good. Of course, he may well, and he's still young, but Strauss was in a very similar position, save for the severity of his injuries, and he was virtually delisted 4 weeks ago.

What's your nickname....Happy chappy

Just out of interest who would have taken Dunn's spot in the 2nd half last year?

He was in good form and deserved to be part of the team for mine. Won us the game up at the GABBA for one.

You cant knock his second half of last year mate, 16 goals in 6 games or something... i hardly call that wasted

He hasnt kicked on this year though... showed signs today, kicked what 4 and dished off a few too (maric in the last)

Is Warnock managed by Marty Pask too? I found the continual pumping up of his tyres quite tiresome by the last quarter. He did play well but it seemed Pask could do well spruiking lamb chops at the market just as well.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
