Many people around these traps have been discussing the coaching situation at our club, and i agree, im not going to discuss Bailey their are plenty of places to do that.

The biggest loss over the off season in my opinion was Sean Wellman, He had our backline pumping, and low and behold thedons look to be a great team after defense was their biggest weakness prior to Hird and his team.

So here we go http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/rivals-keen-to-lure-key-collingwood-assistant-coaches/story-e6frf9jf-1226045856189

Two options for the Demons next season, "Watters helped mastermind the Pies"

also "Neeld would be a strong chance to replace John Worsfold at West Coast"...maybe not anymore

Melbourne already being mentioned in the article, i believe is a positive sign

Bring a high profile coach to our club and assistants, i think we lack depth in our coaching department

We have wiped our debt, we have to be one of the most proactive clubs going after coaches this year & probably next. We must pay top coin to get the best.

Otherwise we might as well be $6 million in debt again.

agree, no point being debt free and having another dud coach.

When Wellman made our defence rapidly improve, we had Warnock as one of our most dour Key Posi players, and young Frawley playing I think 3rd tall with another in Garland and Junior Mac went to help, as well as Bruce adding support. For a while I think Whelan may have been there.

Our midfield was fairly defensive minded and we weren't the most dashing defence, but good a t stopping some onslaughts.

We are now totally rejigging the Mids,,, and renovating that dour defence,,,, as well as playing saplings in the forwardline. We've lost a lot of experience, and the New Leaders are struggling with the pressure of expectations.

I think we need to understand a little more of what is really goihng on behind what we watch, on the TV or at the 'G'. The boys are struggling to find there MOJO in such a (too) youthfull side.

Possible candidates "given" a possible change...

Good reports on:

Brendan McCartney

Scott Burns

Nigel Lappin

Funnily enough they're all associated with Collingwood and Geelong (or have been at Geelong; now at Essendon - McCartney). Burns is at West Coast.

Obviously anyone linked to Geelong, Collingwood are going to be highly sort after. ie. Watters, Neeld, etc

Ratten could be looking for a job next year if MM is enticed to Carlscum.

Could do worse than get him back to coach our young midfield...remembering 2004 here.

Not sold on Ratten at all.... dont think he has done much with the scum since he took over, was under the pump until his list came good this year.

Laidley and Wallace, like bailey dont seem to be the best senior coaches, although both had lack of funding in the FD which doesnt help, BOTH are supposedly a couple of the best football brains in the land

only considering them as assistants or directors of coaching etc

getting a top coach is one thing...we need a malthouse and a chris judd...melb...pay up!

Bombers can go out and get hirdy and thompson...why can't melb do similar? viney and lyon.

There is no doubt if we do not spend the right money on the right coach we "will" be 6 million dollars in debt (at least) again and possibly spend the next forty seven years doing what we have done over the past forty.....Nothing Much !!!!!

I stated they were "possible" candidates. Note I didn't state head coach or assistant coach candidates either.

The topic is "Assistant Coaches", or can't you read ?

I am confused why people still continue to bring up Lyon's name. He has not shown he has any desire to coach an AFL side as far as I have seen to date. He has had virtually no coaching experience and is a long time removed from playing footy. I think we have seen more failures than successes of coaches who have been poor coaches without doing an assistants apprenticeship, some obvious recent successes but more failures I would have thought...

People hear what they want to hear and block out the rest.

It would be nice for the Demons to pick up a few Collingwood coaches for 2012 :)

Yep G Lyon is not going to coach...he has been out of it all too long. I am sure he is still part of the MFC in the shadows & that is great. But as you say Cards, he is not on the coaching list.

We need people who WANT to do the job. Not favorite sons.

Regardless of wellman not being at the club. Our kicking out is still as bad as ever.

This has been a problem for years!! And I don't understand why we don't have a buch of plays to break zones ?

Watching th pies v dogs on Sunday I watch the bulldogs break the pies zone from the kick in on a number of occasions.

They had a great play where Murphy set it up, it looked like he was going to do a Melbourne and kick to himself and bomb it to contest on the flank. Pies fell for it rushed numbers to the flank and a dogs player fell in behind them just off half forward, Murphy changed direction and hit him up un contested and the were off with a crack at breaking the line with some run and carry. Was brilliant footy yet so simple..... I'm struggling to recall the mfc being efficient out of defense.

Why don't we do this well !!

One of the points im referring to with Wellman isnt just how good our defence looked last year, but essendons distinct improvement in this area, our kick in are crap yes....

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
