Do you kids think everying can be solved with a facebook page. The clueless generation.

I still think bailey should either step down or get pushed.

Funny that you say that. Egypt was freed of a 30 year dictator by people getting organized & starting a rebellion using facebook & social media. Whether you think it's clueless or not, it has proven itself to be quite powerful in giving everyday people a voice.

Spot on.

I may have an answer on JD. It was mentioned during the night by a commentator that JD was a "troubled" or he was a "troublesome youth" (not the exact words) and that the has come leaps and bounds in his personal side. I recall MFC want to stay clear of that stuff regardless of talent. Hence Sidebottom & Beams..

Yes there were some potential question marks over character but I doubt the decision was anywhere near that simplistic.

Was it also that 12 < 26?

We weren't the only ones to pass and the decision to take Cook is in keeping with the longer term plan.

Egypt's case was a way of mobilising people. It wasn't a petition like this.

Who is to say that whoever started the group won't go further?

Last year people stopped turning up to Essendon games, the result was Knights got the can. If enough people vote with their feet the club has to listen.

The reality is that members have voting rights & if enough people get p*ssed then the members of the board are also on the block not just Bailey. The whole problem with the club is that we as supporters put up with these performances. The supporters & members are ultimately why the club exists, if we aren't happy we have the power to make a change. The club is accountable to us.

I'm not saying that what I have stated will happen, but my whole point was that everything has to start somewhere. If you have an issue with what is going on at the club & you feel strongly about it you have every right to start a facebook group, or whatever it is you feel will get your point across strongly.

No but it spreads a word a lot quicker than a Telegram!

Is that tackles inside our 50?

They had 13 tackles inside their forward 50, and we had none inside ours.........non existent forward line pressure.

to be fair, the ball never entered the Demons 50!!

I just had a pidgeon turn up with a note saying that we didn't kick a goal in the first quarter. Can someone confirm this so I can wring it's neck if that's the case?

No issue with creating the group. Just got a bit of amusement from people thinking that they were going to change the world. There are few similarities between this and Egypt.

How did all of those groups protesting about the new Facebook layout go?

If the board renew Bailey's contract, how many people do you think would be prepared to vote out Jim Stynes?

Honestly? If the board renew Bailey's contract they better have very, very sound reasoning, because if we continue to play how we did last night and he still gets renewed I will not be renewing my membership for 2012.

They won't renew his contract.

Tougher decisions have been made by the new admin to date than not re-appointing a coach who comes out of contract, and has underachieved.

IMO............the questions they would be considering is who replaces him, and when and how to do it.

Then you won't be able to vote.

I honestly don't know if I could bring myself to vote Jim out. But that said I couldn't vote for him in such a situation. Not buying a membership solves this for me and shows my protest.

Maybe that's because we had no-one in our forward line. The forward line was generally empty for most of the 1st quarter!

Never said there were similarities with Egypt. All I stated is that facebook can be a pretty effective voice & I used Egypt as an example. The petition group has already had there first win in their first 24hours of existence.

Seriously, a story based on 75 angry people on facebook? I'm surprised Jay Clark could even bring himself to put his name at the top of the article.

Bob, just because you don't believe in social media doesn't mean that others on here don't. Some of us want to actually get rid of him sooner rather than later, and things like Facebook groups are good ways for organising and getting together to sort out, for example, a petition to the club. Which, if performances don't improve, I very well will be doing.

Even if you think the facebook group is useless, if you are of the rather popular opinion that change is needed, then why would you not join it. One thing the Facebook group will not do is have any impact whatsoever if everyone sits on their arse and doesn't bother to get involved. I could fairly suggest that if by tonight there is 1000 members, that will definitely get noticed. If we lose on Sunday and then there are 5000, something will happen. It is a simple equation. Voting members = football club.

Somewhere online there is a site which is set up to create online petitions, so that people all over can sign, I am not sure where it is, but check it out. I will too and if I find it I'll send you a msg.

Yes, I'm old too, and no doubt just don't understand modern tactics. I don't. But we didn't used to lose this way.

1. In the old days, the runner would be sent out from the coach telling the player to man up, get on your man! Bailey does not appear to send the runner with this message, which suggests he is not concerned about Melbourne players not manning up when the opposition have the ball. Seems likely enough that not manning up is what Bailey requires from them. So, when West Coast took a mark and went back for the kick, Melbourne players took up positions 15 metres away from "their man", and with arms out guarded empty space, while the West Coast player with the ball took his choice of his free team-mates, and kicked it to one of them. This was repeated until West Coast either stuffed up or had a shot on goal. Week after week, we leave free players the length of the field, giving the new "MFC free kick" all the way to goal. Even on TV you can see plainly where the opposition kicks are inevitably going to go.

If Bailey supposes this tactic will result in us being free to run when we get the ball, great idea, only that it clearly doesn't work. Not only do we leave the opposition free use of the ball, but also they don't seem to have any difficulty in closing in on us when we do get a possession. From the How-to-play-football manual, when the opposition have possession, and when they are slaughtering us, MAN UP!!!!

2. Small wonder we look unfit and slow, when we spend most of the game running like crazy after the players we left that regulation 15 metres in the clear... With our poor starts, we are half-exhausted from the handicap chasing we do all game before we begin to try out our own game-plan. It worked against Sydney last year only because we jumped them before we had done our repeated 30 metre sprints desperately trying to catch-up the start we give away at every opposition possession...

3. Small wonder we look dispirited.

4. I wonder if anyone has asked the elite juniors that we've recruited, the cream of the young performers of the land, what they know that made them such stars in the junior competitions we selected them from. Jack Watts for example was known to be instinctive, fast and a dead shot at goal. How'd he come to the idea that he should now abandon everything that got him chosen in the draft, and go nervous and goal-shy? Nobody looks more confused about "manning up" that poor hard-working Jack. Why is our talent-laden forward line playing mainly in the backline? How about the coach telling them to trust their skills, hold your ground, it'll come? Be there for when we do get a clear kick forward, that's your big moment... (And be there also so you can keep it in there!)

These young players had performed with greater distinction, prior to coming to MFC, than Bailey ever did. With out list management policy over the past three years, they have been treated as, and in fact are, our "talent capital". Why not let their natural skills be part of how they are instructed to play? What if Aaron actually is a small forward? I still remember Robbie being moved to the backline...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
