The Aaron Davey...problem

davey should continue to play in the guts. If he is given a hard tag we can look to move him into the foward 50, but making him the sub or trading is way out of line!

Name me one game he's blown apart since the start of 2010. Because I honestly can't.

I believe he got the 3 Brownlow votes in both games against Collingwood last year.

Aaron gets tagged every game, he always has an opponent on him, just that some cheat and are more easily identified (like Raines) than others.

2 most diappointing things for me were the lack of protection for him from his teammates and the lack of protection from the umpires. There needs for someone to stand in between Davey and his opponent and provide a block and give him space to use his speed, or simply for someone to clean up (fairly) his opponent. Other teams do it to protect their stars, so we need to as well.

For those who say he has no impact, I think his finish in last years B+F should prove you wrong.

The other thing is that when Davey is tagged it frees up others, and those who love Moloneys and Sylvias clearances can thank Davey in a small way as he is getting tagged and they are not.

Until Scully, Trengove, Gys etc. play for a bit longer and become more dominant he will continue to be tagged. When they are all on fire the opposition will not know who to tag.

Finally, for those who want him dropped or traded you might need to drop the rest of the team who are playing some average football at the moment too, could be an interesting team when Casey Seniors line up against the Eagles in R6!

Would love to see Gysberts go head to head with Swallow.

Gys and Swallow, eh? All we need now is a Dick or Cox. Master Bate might be the key to the whole game, too, so we ought to slip him into the . . . team. I wonder if we'll be playing in the wet.

I hear it could be up to 8 inches...

I think we can afford to experiment a bit. Frontal pressure will be important, and if we can keep it up there should be a happy ending.

We'd be stiff not to win that match up though. As long as we're not coming from behind all day.

You gotta agree that there are some valid points here though.

Davey has never been one to handle a tag well, because it's very easy to get into his head and put him off his game. If he gets picked on behind the play he'll often end up giving away a free for his retaliation.

My solution to this problem is to find alternative elite midfielders, so that the burden is not only on Davey.

That is the only thing we can do that will make us a better team and not rob us of creative midfielders, and that is exactly what we are already doing.

These are the questions re his bid for Captaincy.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
