Article here...

Overall we've had a pretty good run in the last few years with who we've let go/picked up (TJ for Grimes a highlight for mine), and I understand sometimes players are more effective in different teams, but geez we could have done with a good hard running defender this year...

Not blaming the club, as I feel he probably had enough time to show more, and I wish Simon all the best, but gotta admit I hope he doesn't do TOO well... haha

Yeah spot on Chickenman, I'm not upset and hope he does well, guess we owe them just a little for one L.Jurrah...

e25, yeah he might not get in, but they're trying to get him into the 22 of the current premiership side for round 1 so he must be going ok...

He is doing something ok, having played well in a few (preseason) matches, but he is still a fringe player, exactly as he would have been at MFC.

I still think we well & truly made the correct decision on Buckley.

Yup totally agree, wasn't doing it for us and may not kill it for the Pies, just thought it was of interest.

Straining my memory here but I can't think of anyone else out of contract that we could have cut. I liked a couple of things about him but understood why he could no longer be on the list.

Fluffy article which does not say much more than Buckley being in contention.

Pies have a load of injuries to a number of players that would be preferred to Buckley.

Player with good pace, but poor decision making and could not hit a jam tin by foot. MFC still have a few of those. Buckley was surplus

Do we really have a need for a defender who doesn't play tight and butchers the footy?

By the way, the article actually strongly suggests Buckley won't play.

Yeah we do, we lost Bruce you know... Wasn't saying Buckley was a great player, I'm saying that if he turns it around and plays great for Collingwood he'll do so in a role that woulda been handy for us...

Geez, fair dinkum guys, this was not an argumentative thread, yet somehow people try and turn it into such

Geez, fair dinkum you would think if you were going to cite a newspaper article you would at least read it and reflect what it says. B)

Good luck to Buckley. Could turn out to be a good get for the pies. They have a few injuries in their backline. He will need to make it count before the likes of Maxwell and Reid return.

Who in our current list would he replace?

I still think we made the right call.

Exactly, Who would he replace ?? I can't think of one.

Buckley would be in direct competition with Rohan Bail, who is fringe himself. I'd take Bail any day - torches it less often (but still more often than ideal) and his attack on ball and man is second to none.

I understand you were saying he plays a role that would be handy for us, it's just that I don't agree with you. I don't think we need defenders who don't play tight and butcher the footy. Sure, Bartram makes me worry every time he's got the footy*, but he plays tight. Buckley could run - that's it. He was a Ward clone that didn't win the footy as much. That said, maybe he'll improve, but unless he's made some dramatic changes in a very short space of time I don't see he fills a role we have open.

As for losing Bruce, we already gained MacDonald.

I just wanted to clarify that, according to the article you cited, it's not 'IN: Simon Buckley' (unlike the title suggests). I'm sure others may have assumed from your title that he was playing in round one, and not everyone is going to bother clicking the link and reading the article.

He just kicked a 60 metre goal on the run.....

yeah, he is starting to get the ball in the second half. 9 kicks, 1 handball. Mind you though, every one of his kicks was just hacked off the boot forward. Has no vision, and I think I could actually kick a goal for the pies now. Thier all lining up.

He is actually a pretty good footballer who had a lot of bad luck at the wrong time when he played at Melbourne. I am not saying we should not have delisted him at all, but the Filth just might have scored another Bargain.

Granted we are talking Round 1.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
