What happens if we start 0-4 or 0-5

Before we all get too excited, I am playing devils advocate and just posing this as a possible scenario. Our first four games are against Syndey, Hawthorn, Brisbane and Gold Coast follwed by a bye in round 5. I would hope we would win at least 3 out of the first 4. What happens if we are 0 and 4???????

Bailey has rebult the team but when you listen to his press conferences over the last 3 years he continues to say the same thing. (IE to many turnovers, not enough inside 50's, skill level needs improvement etc etc). Isnt that his job to make sure we do improve. Sadly he is saying the same thing again this year (yes i know its only preseason).

Obviously we have a team that can compete and I know we are young and I know we have to be patient but there comes a time when we "the fans" need to see more improvement on the field. LESS TALK MORE ACTION.

If we start 0-4 (then after R5 we have a trip to Perth, could be 0-5) then Bailey needs to go. Replacement Leigh Matthew or Mick Malthouse or Paul Roos with G Lyon as Assistant.

PANIC !!!! please don't let us be that situation. :o:o

Bailey will sign a two year deal sometime this year....thats my opinion

if we are 0-4 there will be riots, i will be bitterly disappointed, and there will be laughs from the directions of everyone as we would be the team that was beaten first by gold coast ...

Yeah but if Dean Bailey takes us to a flag I reckon we should mount a statue and name it the Golden Bailey of Supreme Righteousness.

We won't.

We'll be 2 & 2 after 4 games.

Everyone is entitled to free speech and as you're a new member and poster i don't want to discourage you sharing your opinions but it is very hard not to ask you what the point of this thread is?

We have a better pre season that last year but your already thinking of sacking Bailey?

Wow....

If we're 0-4 before the bye, we re-load during the bye and all systems go for round 6.

So you would be prepared to sack the coach, then and there after Round 4 ? Short sighted I think given our young list and their development.

I doubt any of the above mentioned replacements would be interested in dropping everything and taking over at Round 5/6.

Maybe Bin Laden himself is behind this post attempting to sap morale in this fair city. Losing to Brisbane and Gold Coast ???? Just what we hopeful supporters need.......A BIG DOLLOP OF NEGATIVITY !

Hypotheticals.

Fun.

I could go through this and make this look particularly ridiculous, but this post isn't worth it.

It hasn't met basic standards of common sense and reason, and is pure MFCSS.

if we are 0-5 that means we will have zero points.

It depends how the losses occur before any Rash Sackings & Burnings are commenced.

Here we go again....Footy 2011

I shall do exactly the same as if we are 5-0. I will support the team and go to each game with my heart in my mouth (isnt that what we do every game??). I will let the idiota in the media call for sackings and suggest unrest. I will watch this site to see which players get mauled here, and which ones are 'Lyonized'. And I will enjoy that it is FOOTY SEASON AGAIN!! Bring it on!!

Usually on the sleeve, after we've coughed it up! :)

we have the ability and the right mix( except bate and warnock ). IT ALL COMES DOWN TO MINDSET. everyweek this year bar the byes a team will be priming themselves to play the pies. why cant we adapt their mindset.

I would sack him after round 6 if we're winless. It's time that wins and losses count when assessing Bailey's performance.

He wouldn't survive any other league around the world if a 15-50-1 record actually got worse.

Well, the this year's March fo Melbourne would make the Egyptian protests look like a walk in the park, it would start raining upwards and Tom Scully will bite the bullet and walk to Spain to take up an offer with Barca.

What a crap "what if?" thread. Are we going to write the articles and the headlines for the HS?

Hmmm...WHAT IF Skull, Gys, Trenners, Tappy, Davey etc... CLICK, overwhelming any attempt to tag all of them and deliver the ball to Watts, Jurrah, Green etc... with such precision and power they're left with an impression of the ball on their chests after the game and a bad case of leather contact dermatitis???

I wouldn't be making any moves regarding the coach unless we're bottom 4 as at round 15-16.

Even though I really like Bailey, I can't see him surviving if we go backwards from 12th this season

What if we're 4-0 or 5-0? Should we sign up Bailey for 5 years immediately?

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
