Good.

Great time to take a younger squad on the road. Leave a few of our better NAB cup performed players in Melbourne (ie. Jamar, Jurrah, Sylvia, Grimes, Trengove). Gives an opportunity to give Nicholson and Cook a run who didn't look out of place in Adelaide. Increase the game time for Blease, Strauss, Spencer and Martin.

Kinda keen to see how the 'regular' group respond to last night's defeat - yes it was just a preseason game but it would be nice to see our squad bounce back with a solid win over the suns/lions. Then use week four to blood some of the babies...

I agree with the master. I don't think it's worth risking the likes of our injury prone players such as Jurrah, Sylvia and Grimes. I'd also give Jamar a rest. It's a good opportunity to play the young players as if we're playing the GC they'll also be fielding a very young side.

Makes sense. Use next week to rest a few of the seniors and then pick our round 1 side for the last pre season match (hopefully at Casey).

I'd bring in Petterd, Scully and McKenzie if fit, and also rest Davey; keep Howe and Evans, and let's get Tapscott and Gysberts out of cotton wool.

We could field a side with less experience than Gold Coast.

What signs are you seeing in Davey that he needs a rest?

I'm strongly against resting players just because they're not under 22. We've got no old blokes on our list - these are the ones you'd rest to manage their work loads. Playing the inexperienced players is nice and all, but the primary purpose of the pre-season matches is to pump match fitness in to players. To me this means that our most critical players - especially those whose form is poor like Davey and Jamar - would be the first picked, not the last.

If there's a real need to rotate players through to ensure enough of our players get a good run, then I'd be looking towards leaving out the likes of Trengove who has clearly demonstrated based on PS form that if round 1 was tomorrow, he'd be 100% ready. Anyone who has even the slightest of cobwebs must play, especially if they're critical to the side. If that means there's no room for untried kids, so be it.

I'd still rest Jamar and Davey. They are 27yo with at least 8 pre-seasons each. They are also our 2 most important players ATM. An Extra NAB preseason match will not make any difference - they both trained for most of this pre season.

Let's see the kids a chance to show us if they are good enough; then bring back Jamar and Davey in 2 weeks time.

Agree. Guys like Jamar, Davey, Green, Sylvia have had several pre-seasons, they've all completed most of this pre-season so are all fit.

The only thing that can really come out of playing every nab cup match is an increased chance of injury.

I'd like to see these guys rested this week, and brought back next week for the final practise match

Oh thats a shame! I was hoping they would play at Visy Park again so I'd able to watch them. I think we should rest quite a few players like Green, Jamar, Moloney, RIvers and play Gawn, Nicholson, Johnston, Lawrence and others

Davey did limp off late in the 4th quarter on friday night but did manage to come back on. so id say he probaly would get a rest considering hes coming back from a broken leg last year. (just to be cautious)

Garland sustained a calf injury so you would think he wont play too.

And maybe a few of the older guys would prob get a rest i reckon. There was talk jurrah was going to be rested for friday night!

I agree 'TM', with the exception of having the matchups for their big bodied players Hunt, etc.

So I'd like to see Martin, Spence, & Gawn rucked, with Garland rested for a week. Warnock has just come back from an ankle tweak,,, so he needs a run or two. This is a good time to test our young gainst their's, as much as Poss'.

McNamara could come in to replace Garland with Riv & Warnock to support... Tom McDonald, + Jeremy Howe, + Lucas Cook, with a blend of experience to seetle the ship.

I don't mind if Greeny plays back, to give up a spot to a young forward.

Tappy could be a chance? Does he even exist?

Tue 22 February, 2011

Melbourne

Jordie McKenzie (groin soreness) - 1 week

Ricky Petterd (hamstring/back)— 1-2 weeks

Jack Fitzpatrick (foot) - 4 weeks

Robert Campbell (achilles) - 4-6 weeks

Cale Morton (finger) - 4-6 weeks

Michael Newton (broken wrist) -4 -6 weeks

James Frawley (pectoral muscle) - 6-8 weeks

It would be nice to see Tappy & Blease play some good game time. We'll get to see a bit on Telly/Foxtell? so we can record a have a close look.

Can't wait to see how far Fitzpatrick has come on over Pre-season. 'Wonna', may be ready for a run. And young Howe, I'd like to see given a stint up forward...

I think we need all our leadership group out there to lead the way, If they are injury free.. But somone like Davey could be played from the Bench, with less game time.

I reckon Bennell needs a Big blowout, after his ordinary game this week. More game time and responsibility for him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
