I am very interested to see how Hird approaches this game. Spent all his career as a student of Sheedy as have many of his assistants. Missed their first NAB games. I understand they are stacking their forward line with talls. Typical Sheedy tactic. I wonder also if special Sheedy style attention will be given to Jurrah and Watts or will they save it for later in the season?

The tough guy act? Don't think there are any. Lovett-Murray isn't playing, can't think of anyone else down back the might try ye ol rough up. Neagle is down there, but he'll be too busy trying to catch his breath.

Fletcher is probably good for a trip/kick to the shin or two. Hardly intimidatory though.

well it seems to me they are looking to win the match as much as they would a regular game, therefore whatever tactics are employed to achieve this should be appropriately respected

I'm sure they are looking to win.

But do they really care if Petterd tells Essendon he's not playing? No. Well, I would assume no, and I'd be surprised if indeed the FD was concerned with Ricky tweeting over a NAB Cup game.

do you really think someone has asked for Bails for a 29 man squad and he said 'f--k it, who cares, stick Ricky in there, what does it matter' Bailey does not run things like that

two possibilities:

-RP is not fit (as he tweeted) and he has been inserted into the lineup simply to mess with Essendon's matchups OR

-RP is indeed fit and the tweet is a red herring to mess with Essendon's matchups

either way there is a deliberate ploy going on and not a drop of 'who cares' about it

We'll beat them by 60 plus

So this is the reason - you hexed us!

Everyone calm down. RI hexed us.

Phew! I knew that wasn't normal...

You stop yourself next time, RI.

With every negative comes a positive especially with AFL this time of the year. Next week we will get to see a stack of young players taking the field, I hope we get to see this either at Visy Park or Casey. With two games left in the preseason this third week is an ideal time to rest several players I wouldn't expect to see Jurrah, Green, Davey, Sylvia, Garland, Jamar, Trengove, Grimes and Rivers. In their place I am hoping to see Scully, Cook, Gawn, Aussie, McDonald, Blease, Gysberts, Tapscott, Petterd, if they are all available I would love to see us line up as

Bartram Warnock Blease

Strauss MacDonald Bail

Bennell Scully Jetta

Dunn Bate Petterd

Tapscott Cook Aussie

Spencer Jones Gysberts

Moloney McDonald Gawn Howe Evans Maric

Subs Watts Martin

Sub Gawn and Bate or Dunn of at half time

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
