Sheedy Promises not to take any Essendon Players

Reading through an inordinate amount of Age and HUN articles in order to get my footy

fix I came accross these lines in the "Greater Western Sydney Steals: Sheedy's Giant Hit List" article:

"James Hird claims Sheedy has given his word not to take any Bombers"

If this is true this seems extremely unfair, regardless of what happens at the Demons or any club, for Essendon not to face a poaching risk due to Sheedy's loyalty seems to fly in the face of the whole reason GWS is given these advantages. Surely if any Essendon players would be good for GWS and hence 'good for football' in the same sense any other team losing players is, Sheedy making these promises is extremely inappropriate. Makes me wish Neale Daniher or any other former Melbourne Coach was taking the reins at GWS so we could get these advantages..... Although that would be equally unfair.

Maybe Essendon is lucky their playing list isn't worth it and it is easy for Sheedy to maintain this 'loyalty'.

It won't happy. Apart from the bummers being crap, if Sheedy said they were off limits he's not doing his job properly.

and who would you take ?? lol I wouldnt want any of them either pfffttt !!! lol

Hurley and Pears off the top of my head. Don't underestimate their young talent which was grossly mismanaged by the previous footy dept.

Sheedy is more than welcome to any and all of them. ;)

Gumbleton and Ryder as well, they have some good young kids like every other team just no "big" names

I agree- as long as he leaves our players alone and in particulat Tom Scully.

Dustin Fletcher? He was Sheeds favourite & should be 37 by the time GWS play their 1st official game.

He would be a great mentor. Teach the kids how to apply maximum defensive pressure with knees and elbows. Essendon are very well aware though that they have at least two young players of interest to Sheedy.

More fool Hird if he believes that. It's not exactly Sheedy's call anyway, as I understand it.

BWA HA HA HA HA HAAAA!

Can I just say, I really hope Bailey makes the same promise. ;)

But seriously... Essendon have some decent kids coming through, but I can't see any given player in any given position I'd rather have than our equivalent. I know it is debatable on the finer points, but damn we're in good shape!

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
