Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

How can you consider Grimes???? The captain has to at least have a 100 games under his belt surely???

I would say the issue isnt so much the number of games...but the consistency of taking to the field.

theres been some young and able cpatains of teams over the years. Ideally you pickem by theire relevance and apppropriateness to teh job..not some abitrary number of games.

Joel Mac has moer than 100 ..Hi Ho has more.... Bate's only 10 short !! yep all ridiculous examples..and still it shows its not the criteria to go by...imho.

Leaders are Leaders... you can tell who they are as they just naturally lead..and strangely enough others follow.. Put the wrong bloke in the job and it can all come to a grinding halt..... hang on....we did that !!

People on here are still calling for Frank Grimes to be captain in 2012. How? and why?

He hasn't done anything yet.

This is where it gets fuzzy. Grimes won the RBJ leadership award this year after playing only six games.

Go figure.

Why do you reward Green with captaincy? He has shown us already it is not for him.

I know I commented on Jones in the other post WYL, but I just think that given the stage where we are at as a Club, where we are at in terms of individual players nad their stage of development, that Green will be a better leader in 2012. It's not about reward, it's about redemption. He claims that the captaincy had nothing to do with his bad form this year, and the fact that he is on a 1 year contract and would be hoping to get an extra year will mean he has to pull his finger out.

It will also give us another 12 months for the likes of Jones, Trengove, maybe even Moloney, to develop their leadership skills, and for Neeld to "groom" his next long term Captain.

i take no notice of it. It just proves how out of touch the MFC have become. Joel Selwood deserves captaincy. Frank Grimes does not. In future he may, but let us see some BOG's in September first.

Here again..hes obviously the likely lad leader type.. but has this annoying habit of not playing which ever so slightly dents the rationale doesnt it.!!

Grimes is the conundrum of this ilk... leader. I would think HIS priority is to be fit and play a consistent game. Others may well be better or more realistic choice.

Has to get his body right and then play some good games in a row for mine

I was talking in the abstract as your '100 games' threshold will not allow Trengove to be considered, and would have not allowed Carey to be Captain of North.

Games played is a celebrated misnomer and a red herring of true leadership.

Maybe it is a sign of a true leader?

Green was omitted from the leadership group at the beginning of the season a few years back because he was injured and not involved - the players never saw him.

Jack Grimes wins leadership awards when he is injured.

It doesn't mean he has to be captain, but it does point to the fact that some are more comfortable with being a leader than others.

Yes, but the bottom line is that Frank Grimes is paid to play footy. You and i could also be great leaders off the field. But it doesn't win cups.

This is true, but the argument most posters have is that it is the 'on-field' leadership that the team is badly lacking.

I rate Jack Grimes and hope he will make a great VC to Trengove.

I rate Grimes but I don't think the time is right to make him captain, let him concentrate on his fitness and build a solid base before burdening him with the captaincy

But on what criteria can you rate Jack Grimes so far? This is the bit that stumps me. You want him to be good is closer to reality so far.

Still think Grimes is the man.

Has Captaincy written all over him.

Good talker, goes 100% everytime, very serious about football.

Sure has had a few injury concerns, but has been part of the group for 4 years now , and is older than Trengove.

Just personal opinon, but he is my choice.

Bring on the good times!

From the outside looking in, you would think the favourite to be the next MFC Captain would be Grimes or Trengove, but the $million question is about timing. I personally think Trengove is 20 games short of captaincy material (I await B59's disapproval), but I also think Grimes is 1 full season short too.

So then the next question is what will Neeld see from the inside that he likes? Jones would have to be in the top couple in terms of training and leadership, especially around the younger players. He has around 100 games under his belt, and on match day isn't affraid to put in. BUT, in the ideal world, which I don't think is far away, when Grimes and/or Trengove are total stand-outs for the job, would we bother letting Chunk keep the title warm for 12 months, until JG/JT take it? What will that do to culture? I'm not sure - just asking!

With the wholesale changes that have happened over the past 4 months, and given Green is still quite capable, and has already insisted that he wants the job again, which will mean he will work his ass off over this preseason, I just can't see it being given to anyone other than Greeny. It makes logical sense for that to happen.

I understand most on here that don't agree, but I think most theories on here that don't invovle Green being Captain are about 12 months before they're ready.

I agree with the general gist of what you are saying

I think Green being the incumbent would be favorite for keeping the chair "warm" until someone else steps up, matures a little longer and makes for a "safer" decision.

Just my 2c worth (regardless of how I rate Greeny's captaincy capabilities).

Billy..for what its worth id almost agreee..On the surface youd ( meaning most of us ) would probably prefer to see Tengove with say 50-60 games under belt. But theres games and games.. He does seem to have a very able and 'older' head on his shoulders so in that regards Ill grant him a concession. Were a bit like bookends as a club.. A handful of older ones with many games.. a handful mid career with about a 100 and then a lot of sub 50 gamers.

Id be happy enough to look to the man more than his stat sheet. This hand is sort of forced.

Actually.. just as a question for those that get to go to training ...how have any of the 'likely's" looked ?? i.e anyone seeming to be putting their hand up ??

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
