There are many ways to get your point across without resorting to personal insults Nasher. You are a mod too, I suggest you read the code of conduct & moderating guide again and remind yourself of your duties.

I read it before I started posting here and hence always try to be on my best behaviour. It is hard to stay nice when you have an I.T nerd from Hobart calling you a "numptie" however.

I wonder what type of numpty he had in mind nostradeemus?

Hahahaha nice, well according to Urban Dictionary it is either;

A- A stupid person, a figure of ridicule

B- A cross between a num-nuts and a short fat person, or

C- A drunken Aboriginal woman available for sex with all comers.

or,

Numpty first surfaced on the terraces of west of Scotland football grounds, many many years ago. A player who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a shovel would be a f***ing numpty.

"Awww Jimmy you f************ing numpty!! You couldnae score wi' ma' sister!"

sounds like a numpty is an MFC whipping boy

I think that once again, the majority of supporters' expectations will be out of touch with reality.

We've lost a lot of experience and the list is very young.

If we get the same result in 2011 that we got in 2010, or better, it will be a pass.

People just love to get ahead of themselves...

incorrect, we were within a bee's member of finishing about 6th/7th this year, we lost 3 by 3 points or less and had few other we definitely should have won, inc Hawks and Dockers in WA, if we finish 12th again i will not consider it a pass. We've lost Bruce and McDonald, nothing else, since PJ, Miller and Bell contributed almost nothing to our on-field performance.so I expect the huge number of gun youngsters to make up for that easily

Surely any whipping boy would have to come from the main list?

Not a rookie post.

Yes, a whipping boy is a player who gets a lot of game time, but splits members/followers opinions dramatically with their performances (or method of play=not deemed to be hard at the contest). Bruce would be the epitome.

Morton would have to be in the frame, maybe Bartram and Bate if he gets much game time. Bennel too; he has that baulking a contest to live with. Doubt if it will be Jones; he may well struggle with form/keeping his place, but members generally respect the way he plays. Watts maybe, but he only has to show some improving impact (ie there's a chance he might turn into a Riewold) to stay safe.

The rookies probably won't get enough game time to enter the equation.

We should all keep in mind that with only a couple of fan sites to trawl through, it is safe to assume that our time-rich professional footballers read these comments. Could it even have been a tipping point for one Cam Bruce to go elsewhere for LESS money !

If my team lost it's captain and vice captain we would have a bit of work to do...

Unrealistic expectations already surfacing.

There seems to be some generally accepted idea that the way to achieve success in the AFL (or sport in general) is to set lofty standards and then go hunting for someone's head if they are not achieved, whatever the reason.

Aim high by all means, but have some bloody sense at the same time.

Hello,

Nice to see my topic generated so much comment, for all the naysayers if you read my first post again, try to understand the tone.

I absolutely loath the fact that so called supporters will constantly denigrate a player no natter how hard they try, or how well they play, this was the point I was trying to make.

A few posters could see this, but then again this is a public forum and everybody is entltled to their opinion

Well that good to hear

But I can't say your opening post conveyed those thoughts. Maybe I'm just a numpty

Now as we enter a new season and we are missing a few of the perennial 'whipping boys', such as Bruce, Miller, PJ.....who does everybody think will rise to the occasion to become the new Demonland whipping boy.......Bartram and Newton have a slight head start providing they play.....

But it came from a poster who rarely is negative toward players.

And the term 'whipping boy' certainly conveys a sense of unearned criticism or OTT criticism.

Sometimes I think we should see posts in the best way intended.

Unless it's from E25.

Total trolling muppet-clown...

Honestly, whipping boy = scapegoat.

And by the very definition of the term, it is someone who unfairly gets the lion's share of the blame.

The thread topic wasn't "who is going to be bloody awful in 2011 and deserve the scorn of demons supporters?"

Ah. If I knew my posters better, I might have realised.

Nevertheless the thread seemed to me to be an invitation to have a go at players

A thread constructively talking about what skills players need to improve on would be a more positive approach.

But, maybe that is just semantics, and I just had my MFCSS scanner's sensitivity up too high

Carry on

no not acceptable

we were close to winning 13 this year

i would like to see us actually win 13 next year

collective improvement of a very young and talented group > loss of Bruce and Macca

Unfortunately, reality isn't as simple as that.

We all wish it were and if we lived in your world Frank Costa would have gotten rid of a two-time Premiership Coach before he was a two-time Premiership Coach.

And it's an intangible and difficult to measure loss is Bruce and Junior.

We will see...

13 wins or more is the result I'd hope for, but hardly what I'd expect.

To do so shows no appreciation for the inherent uncertainty of AFL football.

You know what they say about best-laid plans...

We clearly should have won 3 more games........the 2 against the Pies of course and that monday night game against the Dogs when the Big Bad One was hopeless in the drizzle !

That's 11.

And we could have lost that game up in Darwin.

We had 7 wins, 4 close calls and a whole lot of losses.

We're flag threats!

Please explain how we were close to winning 13 this year.

I don't know what is wrong with some people except to say perhaps they do not watch the games. Or they are so deeply rooted in MFCSS they cannot see obvious facts in front of them.

The 2 Pies matches + Bulldogs, obviously, a kick in it, takes us to 11.

We definitely should have beaten the Hawks as discussed in a recent thread.

I just watched the Freo game again, we missed two easy shots to take the lead with minutes remaining, after conceding a 9 goal to 2 start. Should have won that too.

That's 13 buddy, anyone who disputes that is just an idiot, or the lord of MFCSS

Therefore any less than 13 in '11 is a fail for me

I disagree. Taking the rose coloured glasses off for a sec, whilst I would have loved our team to win that one. The hawks superior body size and experience in the occassionally wet game outlasted a spirited youthful side on the up. The Hawks gradually got the better of us. Using Davey going down and Jurrah coming off for short periods because of a sore wrist is no evidence for your argument either.

That is a should'a, could'a, would'a argument and it doesn't hold.

Coming from 9 goals to two down against Fremantle doesn't guarantee a definite missed chance either in my book. 11 at best. Great effort to just get back. Poor first half doesn't quite equate to the one that got away. Would have been brilliant had the team got up though.

maybe watching the games and thinking before posting is in order

Look who's talking. Given another change in the dynamics of our side...ie. Gysberts & Blease more games - Junior & Bruce gone. Others will have to collectively step up.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
