Huge deal for Mack he’s done well. How did the Raiders stuff this up? Was a franchise player and edge rushers make the difference.

Part of a bigger plan obviously. The immediate future of that team has to have people worried. I'm all for incoming coaches doing a cleanout generally... Gruden would want to hit on the picks he got though.

Absolutely. It just seemed like they were at a point where the would challenge for playoffs but as you said Gruden wants to put his stamp on things. I’m a big fan of Mack I really don’t think DEs like that come round often.

Yeah I have him as top 3.

And yeah, I reckon if you're gonna make a big move like that to fill out your team with talent, it's at the START of a big 5 year coaching stint. For all of the discomfort this decision has caused, oppo fans aren't all that down on it. I feel like it can work either way. And yeah, Raiders can certainly compete for playoffs.... but maybe they're just a touch thin overall. Carr's a good player, but is he MVP? Cooper's had a bad year. You gotta ask yourself do they have all the pieces in place, and if not, you go out and get them.

I feel like the NFC is looming large. You look at some of the stacked rosters... Rodgers, Brees, Eagles, Vikings... And then you look at AFC on their side and I reckon your own list looks like it sits somewhere in the 10-16 spot, at best, in the power rankings. With that in mind, this sort of feels like a good move.

Tipping comp time again ... easy to play,  just pick 3 road teams to win from 3 picks.  Most week's there is 1 point on offer for getting all 3 correct but we have a number of bonus weeks where 2 points are up for grabs with the final week carrying 3 points.

All tips must be in before the games start for your particular tips.  No changing tips or editing allowed.  As stated,  it's a very easy process apart from getting them right!

Missing a week or 2 or starting late may not necessarily effect your chances of winning ... there are numerous weeks when no one gets a point or points.  However, the bonus weeks is where the comp is usually won & decided.

Bonus weeks are week's  2, 5,  7,  9,  11,  13,  15 & 17 where 2 points are on offer with week 17 worth 3 points.

So a shout out to @Clintosaurus  @JV7  @Dappa Dan  @Gorgoroth  @cowboy_from_hell  @DeeSpencer  @Cards13  @Go the Biff  @Strafford  @Dee Zephyr  @Wadda We Sing  @titan_uranus  @pantaloons  @DemonDave  @layzie  @daisycutter  @Dr. Gonzo  @beelzebubor anyone else who might be interested in participating.

Welcome to the comp Gonzo and good luck to the Jets ... it would be refreshing to see the Pats not win the AFC East.  You never know,  a lot can change from year to year in the NFL.

Count me in for the tipping @Macca

I’ve been out of touch with the NFL the last few years so I’ll do a bit of refreshing in the next few days and then enter my tips. I don’t want to be that bloke holding up the leaderboard.

I once sat on the grand total of 1 point going into week 11 so you may need to be made of the stern stuff DZ.

Trust me,  every point gained is more often than not hard earned.  Points in the last few weeks seem to be easier to attain but in the meantime,  good luck!

Traditionally I haven't entered the names of those participating on the leader board until thet get off the mark.  The comp is cruel enough as it is! ?

Part 2 was released at the same time as Part 1 (or close enough to), it's just over on Sal's Against All Odds Podcast and not on BS'.

I will keep an eye out ... it will probably apoear somewhere in the next day or so.

Thanks

I like Bill's column as well ... usually appears on the Ringer around Thursday/Friday but I prefer to read it late Sunday.  The BS Report 'Pick the Lines' podcast on the other hand is often better listened to early in the week right after the previous week's games are completed.

Peter King's column is very good too ... a more serious approach obviously but good reading.  But there's a stack of stuff available online.

And here is Sports Illustrated's NFL Preview Edition - the free edition is a bit slow to download but follow the links and you will get it.

Read with Adobe Acrobat Reader or similar/equivalent.  The Rams & Falcons feature

Gee Macca you're gonna have a fair bit of work cut out for you by the looks of it.

10 participants would be a good number but even if was 12-15 it's not that hard to manage Dappa.  We'll probably get 8+ so no biggie.

Had a read of that Sports Illustrated NFL Preview mag (see link above) and the quick 1 page overview of every team is easential reading for those who need a brush-up or who are new to the sport.  Half way through the mag is where to look just after the Rams write-up and the article on the QB's

Here's my projected outcomes for the divisions ... The Pats & Steelers could get the 1 & 2 seeds again in the AFC whilst the NFC could go any which way.

The Rams & Eagles are going to have their divisional rivals coming at them hard whilst Green Bay will be in a dog-fight in the North as well.  The South is between 3 teams but Atlanta could prevail.

As for the projected playoff results,  who knows?  But who would pick against the Patriots getting to the big dance again?  And as is often the case,  I'll no doubt miss on at least 4 or 5 of the teams listed below ?

  • AFC East      New England
  • AFC West     Chiefs
  • AFC South   Jacksonville
  • AFC North    Pittsburgh
  • Wildcard       NY Jets
  • Wildcard       Broncos

  • NFC East      Philadelphia
  • NFC West     LA Rams
  • NFC South    Atlanta
  • NFC North    Green Bay
  • Wildcard       Vikings
  • Wildcard       49ers
  • AFC East      New England
  • AFC West     Cheifs
  • AFC South   Jacksonville
  • AFC North    Pittsburgh
  • Wildcard       Houston
  • Wildcard       Chargers

  • NFC East      Philadelphia
  • NFC West     LA Rams
  • NFC South    New Orleans
  • NFC North    Minnesota
  • Wildcard       Green Bay
  • Wildcard       Atlanta

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
