Well, there you go.

Mark Thompson is not going to Essendon, but might not coach Geelong next season.

Suffering from burn out apparently after 11 years as a senior coach.

Wow!!! Is that so....I thought he was struggling a bit all this year..He was always cranky. Bad Blood still lingering after 2008 me suspects. The Handbags will regret this one.

This is crazy..Hird, Wellman and now Thompson...

Not forgetting the 1.2 mil payout to Knights..

Hird..You would think at least 1 mil a year over 4..4mill

Thompson?

Wellman..

All in all.. ALOT of spending! .............................

Which is exactly why there will never be a level playing field in the AFL with the likes of Essendon, Collingwood and Carlton having the big $s........ but I'd still prefer to do it the Melbourne way. The taste of victory, when it comes, will be so much sweeter!

Gee, I hope for your sake the Hird/Thompson combo doesn't actually work out to be a success, cos you'll have to get used to hearing alot more about Essendon if that's the case.

I don't know if all of this will work out, but at least it's a positive move from my club.

Nothing personal at all Ash, but I hear enough crap about your club as it is. Will be interested to see what happens with Mark Williams, Dean Laidley, Alan Richardson - have these 3 just been taken along for a ride and further, Matt Knights shafted once David had confirmed Hird's intentions?

I am sure you are all excited about Hird's appointment. It may work, it may not, but there is a very very large percentage of playing greats that just cannot bring that 'golden' touch to the coaches box, especially so at their club of origin. These 'returning of prodigal sons' etc rarely work as one might dream.

The odds are in my favor. Good luck to you though.

I cannot say the same for your football club, sorry. B)

I agree, just because you've been a great/successful player doesn't necesarily mean you'll be a great/successful coach. If that were so expect to see Buckley, Voss and then Hird win flags in the next couple of years. Just get every club's champion player to coach their team and then they can take it in turns to deliver the goods providing some of them can get 16 year contracts.....

A mate works for a company that is one of the sponsors at Bomberland. According to him, Bomber Thompson will have an involvement next year with the EFC and he won't be coaching at Geelong.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
