It's a contract ... You realize you can write a new one .. One that suprcedes the prior if all parties agree

again. It's not that hard

It's not often that existing contracts get cancelled and new ones signed when a player gets traded.

It's a new contract between us and Hale. North and Hale both agree to terminate the old contract. If one or other of them doesn't agree to terminate it then it stands. FMD!

Have they agreed to terminate the contract though?

If Hale was on stupid money, why would he agree to that?

Maybe not ... And this may be one of the times it does !! Or a simple extension. Why is non of this possible ? Because it doesn't happen OFTEN? We are dealing in a new world of circumstances.

The concept is quite simple, but the motives are not there.

You cant possibly know that

It's hard isn't it.

Hale says to us "I want to come to you but GC have offered 4 and Hawks 3. You've offered 2 and from my point of view that's a deal breaker. 3 would do the trick."

North don't care if it's 2, 3 or 4.

Does that help.

You don't like it when you're on the end do you.

Smile, it's only trade week.

I love it when I'm on the other end. Never happens though.

Hale is NOT OUT OF CONTRACT. So years don't come into it.

There are a lot of assumptions that his contract with North would be terminated, but I don't think that is likely at all.

We might have offered more security (longer term) in exchange for a modest pay cut and a new contract.

Neither can anyone else that is assuming his current contract will be terminated.

It's not a common thing, I don't know why anyone would just assume it will happen.

A lot of water to go under the bridge though and a lot of assumptions being made.

Because we're offering him a longer term on comparable money?

There's two parts to this deal - North has to be satisfied and Hale has to be satisfied.

If there's more than one club involved there's a bidding war on both parts.

Hale would be satisfied to come to us on the existing contract of 2 more years.

The bidding war is a furphy.

Whatever is in the "original" contract is included for TPP purposes somewhere, either with NM or Hale's new home.

Hale can agree to reduce the money at any time but he'd only do it if he thought he'd be better off.

Doesn't really matter if it's a new contract or a contract extension does it. It's all the same in the end - club/club/player make a deal.

Well it does matter if the money is different over the 2 years that are covered by his existing contract.

What i'm saying is that it's very unusual for a player's contract to be terminated so that he can be traded and a new contract formed with the new team.

It is far from a common occurrence and considering he still has 2 years to go, I don't see the motivation.

If he was in the twilight of his career those years might come into it, but he is relatively middle aged.

& it's not MFC's style to throw long contracts at players like that.

Jamar had a single year contract in 2010.

Agree with your point, but GC Suns have picks 13 & 15, so 17 is actually only 3 picks down the order from 12.

5 positions is 5 positions. its simple

its 41.666666% worse

So there's only been one club involved then ?

From what I gather we are the only team really INTO him.

Others aren't really in the running.

Norf are using their perceived interest to push the price up.

Am guessing ( ackowledge that) that we may be only ones to get to 2nd base so far

Pelchen (Hawks Rec Man) thinks it's between Hawks and Melb, with Melb well down the track because of the contract work we have done.

It's fair to say that we were the club that had a chat in June/July this year.

Pelchen is pretty keen.

Yes, but the Hawks always are and they don't have much to offer.

Maybe Osbourne?

They won't trade their first pick.

I've spoken to a handful of mates, one who actually works for the Roos (but somehow follows us, go figure), and they reckon Hale's a really good player at FF, but as a ruckman, they'd prefer someone with more pace. Very old-fashined, crash-and-bash (Jamar style) but not much tank/speed. Almost all made the assumption that he's been recruited to play just as a KP forward, which was weird, given that so many are calling it a trade for a ruckman.

I'm liking it more as I go. Anything to stave off the Jack Anthony talk.

He'll be a FF, but remove the need for Jamar to do any rucking in the forward line.

He'll also have infrequent forays into the ruck when they swap.

I can't imagine either spending too much time on the bench.

(Notice I take it as a given we will acquire Hale).

They've got the compo pick for Brown at the end of the first round.

Assuming he lands at Melbourne...

He'll be a step ladder for Jurrah.

I'll bet you a new MFC jumper that if Hale comes to MFC it'll be on a contract that's for longer than 2 years.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
