Josh Walker

I really like the look of this lad, have seen him a couple of times for the Falcons and Vic Country. Would be a nice option for a second or third rounder.

He isn't just a lead up target, he gets involved and loves to lay a tackle. He also takes strong contested marks and kicks goals.

Averaged a few goals a game and doesn't always play close to goal.

Truth be known I prefer him to his more fancied vic country team-mates Lucas Cook and Tom Lynch. If developed he could grow into what we need.

Tried finding some video, no luck!

194cm and still growing

14.4 beeptest... Looks good.

Maybe a chance for our second or third pick

Specifically liked this bit about him:

“Athletically, he’s fantastic and he’s an outstanding mark. He’s got a good pair of hands and he crashes the packs,” Turner said.

“He gets a lot of the football and is a good decision maker. He’s really come on this year, hopefully he can keep improving.”

I always take Mick Turner with a grain of salt, according to him all of his boys should get drafted. But he does have good athleticism works very hard and has hunger for the footy. There was a bit of a knock on his kicking but I beleive he has tidied this up nicely this season.

Has 31 goals from 13 games in 2010.

I'd love to draft a second tall forward after our 2nd Rnd pick. Just to add insurance to the tall forward issue of need.

I think we certainly need a topline CHB, but if we draft 2 - 3 Big forwards, were soon to be bound to find one really suited to the Key defensive post.

I like Watson but there is an argument that he seems slow, so if there is another out there that can convert to CHB, lets see them.

Great beeptest would be very important to run out of defence & get back, as well as elite foot skills.

Footage and interview below. Sometimes the footage can give a skewed assessment, but I have seen the kid a few times and he is what he looks to be. Strong marking and hard working.

From what I've seen he didn't get drafted so he may be an option for the rookie draft, although I'm sure a lot of other clubs will have the same thing in mind.

I'm not so sure that Walker is going to be a priority in view of the type of player we drafted already at the national draft.

Do you go for needs or best available at # 14 in the rookie draft?

Haha, I preferred him to Lucas Cook.

Any chance we can get this bloke? We lose a KPF and gain one.

In terms of KPFs he is still a pup. It's more what he does at the moment that is eye catching. He is exceptionally strong and he is one grab. He does need to get more involved which will happen with better opportunity and game sense.

Walker is the grandson of former Geelong player. Though he has been starved of opportunities. Has some potential but is a 50/50 proposition right now.

He is behind Kersten and has not stepped up behind Hawkins.

Recruitment of Clark further relegates him.

Don't rate this guy at all, runs around seemingly without purpose on the footy field. That being said, he average more goals per game this year (1.6) than anyone on our list.

That's really depressing

  2. Josh Walker is a professional Australian rules football player at the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League. He was recruited by the club in the 2011 Rookie Draft, with pick #23.Wikipedia
  3. Born: November 12, 1992 (age 21)
  4. Height: 1.96 m
  5. Weight: 87 kg
  6. Career start: 2012

Anyone remember what Hawkins was like at his age? Well here is a stat for you. Walker is currently averaging more goals than Hawkins was at the same age, having played less than half the games too, with the rest of the stats close to being even. We are an extremely impatient bunch here on Demonland.

He needs to get where the footy is more, but in terms of problems as a 22yo kpf that is a not the worst one to have. It is also the reason that I think he is undervalued in the comp and potentially tradeable.

Having said that in a Geelong forward line he is working to a Geelong structure focussed around Tomahawk. When I have seen him play as the main banana he has no problem finding it.

I am sticking my neck out on this one, he will be a player.

Walker, Hunt and pick 33 for Clark.

Walker, Hunt and pick 33 for Clark.

I like it, but Geelong might feel that is overs for Clark. Also 3 incoming players and one outgoing is challenging for us. Can we pull a gws dom barry move and force them to take a player back, maybe Evans?

Might be dreaming there!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
