Good luck to him finding a coaching gig at the top level. There are a few assistant spots opening, I am sure his work at east freo will help him find a spot somewhere.

Would be a great coach to have in our FD. Still young enough to really help the kids, don't forget his preparation before games was ahead of its time. He got the best out of himself for sure.

I'd like to see him helping @ Casey next year.

May even replace a Mark Williams or a Josh Mahoney whom may want to move on.

Unless Shane Woewodin is the best candidate for the vacancy and not just a past players favour, I dont want him in an MFC coaching position as we head towards our critical window of opportunity.

In spite of what happened re his departure, it's my understanding the past has been pretty much buried, and Woey has for some time demonstrated his love for the MFC. A few years back, when he did the circuit of the MCG before the Queen's Birthday clash against Collingwood, he had his kid dressed in a Melb guernsey. Think he's also shown up in the Melb rooms after a game or two as well.

His is another of those great stories, in the way he broke into the team through sheer desperation, and went on to be a true club champion.

And, from all reports, he has been excelling as a coach.

So, yes, if there's a spot available at MFC, and he's considered good enough to fill it, I'd love to see him back in the fold.

Interesting that according to that article his job has been turning a struggling group around and developing young players - both relevant to us.

Wouldn't want him for sentiment, but he may bring something extra to the job if he qualified on the football professional counts.

Past players and individuals that have a strong passion and love for their club are invaluable Rhino and as the article suggests,

he has developed a rare ability to communicate exceptionally well with younger players.

A past player of his age would be fantastic as a communicator and mentor for our young group and if a spot opened up

it would be fantastic to have him back.

No one thought Jim Stynes had the credentials or experience to handle the top job at our club but look what the guy has done

through passion and love for our club.

I just received royal assent to overturn that ban.

You can now say what you like about Woewy and the decision by the club to trade him. We're all over it now.

Given we have had a lack of success for nigh on 50 years I would have thought we should be judicious in stacking the shelves with past players wanting a gig unless they are the best candidate for the job.

I dont think the love of a club and passion are sole domain of just ex players. FWIW, I think Matthews did a fabulous job at Brisbane, Clarkson at Hawthorn and Thompson at Geelong. Even the Reverend at MFC put in devoted service under difficult circumstances.

And your statement about Stynes is simply incorrect. Few doubted Stynes but he had taken on a drastic challenge at MFC. He has done wonderfully. Its a job for the rare type. Assistant coaches are not so rare and there is a wider market. And I am not so sure Woey's skills are rare but a pre requisite in a capable assistant coach.

I trust as a coach that he is a little more worldly than when he was a player. While his determination to get the most out of himself was admirable. His inability at two clubs to realise the writing was on the wall was interesting.

Good points you & RR raise.All I was pointing is -if Mark Willliams or Josh Mahoney moved on-then a vacancy would exist and Shane would be an ideal replacement.However you raise another valuable point he maybe suited in a role in say player welfare.Or indeed ,ark Williams mat move into a welfare role.

I believe Junior & Millsy were not happy with The Age article. They thought it did not accurately reflect what they were saying.

I think all bridges have been mended. Woewy has been back at the club - most recently for the 10 year reunion of the 2000 Grand Final Team.

If there is a vacancy - I say let's look at what he has to offer.

Not a fan of ex players becoming coaches of the same club Nothing against Shane but i believe brisbane and the filth have made big mistakes

A BIG assumption to say we're all over woey's departure but really at his peak he was a great inside player at the clearences, same as Viney, I'd love him on the coaching team, he has been around some great coaches and maybe he can bring what some of those coaches missed in terms of player relations???

Woey had passion for the club and was a fantastic trainer. Could add a lot IMO.

If you're still pining over Woewodin after all this time I'd suggest you've got some deeper issues that need looking in to.
