Of course all this means nothing if it was Miller's choice not to play. If that is the case, well he can take his petulance somewhere else.

I am also concerned that could this mean that they maybe giving Newton ANOTHER CHANCE. Oh please NOOOOOOOO

From memory, I believe the scenario is that Miller and Bell would need to sign a waiver in order to play finals. If they were to get injured playing for Casey, and had not signed a waiver they would have to receive another year's salary and we would have to include it in the salary cap.

I remember a couple of years ago Guy Rigoni opted to sign a waiver so he could play in a finals campaign with Casey. Essentially the decision lies with the player.

As for Newton, he's on the rookie list, so it's not that big a deal if he sticks around for mine... Could be important if the 80 interchange cap is introduced.

For me there's always a touch of sadness when players who have been great servants of our Club are told that they are no longer part of the future, and in Belly's case, there's an extra tinge because he was so close to the late Broady.

Yes, If I remember correctly, I seem to recall Bell pretty much dedicated his footy to the memory of Broady. Really had hoped he would excel for that reason, if not for Bell, himself! Regrettably, injury cut him down, and I don't think we really ever got to see the very best of what he was capable of.

Seems he was having a pretty good pre-season this year, too, before he again was cruelled by injury.

Some guys just don't seem to be able to take a trick. (Add him to the list of Schwarz, Lyon, Tingay, Glen Lovett, etc. etc.)

All the very best, Daniel. You gave your best to the MFC. We can ask for no more.

I was disturbed when I read in the Age this morning that Miller would not be part of the Scorpions finals team. How can that be. After having put in for the team for practically the whole year and not be part of a possible grand final. If the Club has decided that I think it just stinks. I for one would hope that the Club is not so mean spirited and short sighted that it would not include one of the better forwards of the VFL in the finals campaign. I know, we all know that he is not part of the Club's future but allow him to play. I would have thought that a successful finals campaign would be more important to the MFC/Casey Scorpions ongoing relationship and despite Miller's not being seen as good enough to be an AFL player he has as all would agree had a great year as forward spearhead at the Scorpions.

Of course all this means nothing if it was Miller's choice not to play. If that is the case, well he can take his petulance somewhere else.

Quite the contrary.

SEN reported this morning via Chris Connolly that Brad was leaning towards giving up his farewell game with the Dees on Sunday so that he could play for Casey. Says it all about the kind of bloke he is really.

Also reported that Guy McKenna had indicated interest in him. It'll kill me to see him play well against us, but he is one of the all-time great blokes of our Club so I hope he gets another chance.

All the best to Millsy and Bell.

Credit to both for what they got out of themselves. Hopefully a nice finish by winning a flag with Casey.

That just about summarises the sort of person and player Miller is. He knows that by getting a farewell game in the AFL he'll push out a player who is part of our future, whereas in the VFL he can help Casey win a premiership.

Selfless to the very end.

Really really hope he gets picked up by the GC. They could do worse in terms of leadership.

We did it last year with Wheatley, Whelan and Robbo, I'm pretty sure we'll do it again this year with Miller and Bell. Just a feeling.

Selfless thinking, yes, but with Newton in the team I'd have no problem with Miller coming in (i.e. move Newton out).

Apparently Jurrah's also possibly injured (I'm pretty sure the interview he did yesterday was at Victoria House, which would strengthen that idea). If Jurrah has to be withdrawn Miller can have his spot too. I don't mind.

Spoke to Belly @ the B&F last nite and asked him about the incident with Ben Johnson a few years back. I reckon he has not been the same since and he agreed. Reckons he still has a lot of neck and back issues as a result of the hit. Says his shoulders are stuffed, though that is not from that incident. Got the impression he is still filthy with Johnson for the hit. This is yet another reason why we should all hate the black and white with a passion.

Saw Ben Johnson out one nite and told him what I thought of him for that hit and he just smirked. Arrogant scum

I was standing behind the Dees bench last year at the Dees Bulldogs NAB challenge Casey match when Bell came off with a broken hand. Seeing him in such pain up close, nursing a hand that clearly couldn't and didn't want to function, really forces you to appreciate how much these guys put their bodies on the line

Cheers Belly and all the best for the future

He must have appreciated the knowledgable and insightful point of view but was too shy to show it.

Will love to see a truly injury free Jurrah- he will become a match winner.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
