Your argument was that people on this forum unreasonably favor players such as Maric ahead of the likes of Miller; that people get very excited when someone like Maric has a good game, but don't get excited when Miller has an even better game. I was simply responding to this, and pointing out that the reason a good game from Maric would garner more exitement than an even better game from Miller is that we all know by now that Miller will not make it, but Maric still might. I wasn't trying to say anything about Maric in particular, who I thought was pretty ordinary today.

Of course ten goals is never "easy". It was a fantastic performance in anyones language. My point, though -and I'm repeating myself here- is that we already knew Miller was capable of this kind of performance. We also already know that at AFL level, he doesn't quite cut it. So at the end of the day, while it was a great performance, it really doesn't provide the selection panel with anything new to think about when deciding whether to give him a game.

agreed . Miller to stay in the two`s. Bate is in massive trouble. Pettard will come back next year.

Lachie Henderson kicked 10 goals for the Bullants this year(same round as Dunn i think), and didn't get a recall. If the team wins today again, i see no reason for a change.

I also had Maric for just about worst on ground yesterday. He found a bit of the ball, but his decision making and disposal were abysmal.

The worst on the ground by far would have to be Neville Jetta. Undersized, has no tricks and goes missing for large amounts of the game (week in week out). This kid ain't gonna make it. Why we didn't do homework on his cousin Lewis, even when Neville's mother said Lewis was the "best" Jetta is beyond me.

Repeat REWARD PERFORMANCE NOT MEDIOCRITY when considering who to come in and out of the senior side. Of course miller will come in next week.

repeat - bailey wants future forward line playing together, learning together and growing together. Miller has been tried and tested and been given his fair share of oppurtunitys in the the past. we are moving forward. this is why Junior and Bruce should finish up at years end. its all part of the process.

Strong sides must have a significant number of players performing well at their affiliated club. If they perform well and consistently, they should be promoted. If you don't want to play them, don't keep them on the list. Miller is not good enough to play AFL football but is certainly good enough to play well at VFL level. He will always be knocking on the door. Pencil him in for next week.

Dead right. If everyone's little golden boy Addam Maric had kicked 3 the peanut gallery would be screaming for his recall. Miller could've kicked 25 and he'd get no love.

Agree.

I don't think speed is his problem.

He is a kicker and instinctively looks to find an option to spot up by foot.

He is not a runner; he doesn't instinctively look to run the ball.

Slow by foot, slow to make decisions too. That to me has been obvious from the get go, and hasn't really improved on the basis of what I saw yesterday.

I am still yet to see anything that makes me believe he will make it at AFL level.

Or a major flaw in the player??? Hmmm

Oh dear, a player gets tackled by a ruckamn, gets pinged for holding the ball, and now we have people questioning our game plan as well as the player involved. This is football people, everyone will get tackled and give away a free kick for holding the ball at some stage in their career.

I'm questioning Geelong's game plan and I also think Ablett is overated - I'm pretty sure he got pinged for holding the ball last night. Ok, it may not have been by a ruckman, but he still got caught.

Regardless of Miller's previous attempts in "the big league", he has to be close to automatic selection for next week based on 10 goals. For those supporters saying he shouldn't be, have a think about this...what sort of culture are you wanting the club to create by not selecting players who work their ass off at Casey, do their job (and in this case as Miller is a forward, he needs to kick bulk goals), just because he has been given an opportunity in the past and failed in some games? Thank Christ you guys don't have anything to do with this Club for an administration point of view.

Well done Brad Miller, 10 goals is a great effort at any level of football, let alone the 2nd best level in Australia.

because we pay professional recruiters to make these decisions, we don't ask some guy's mum what she reckons

besides Lewis Jetta went at pick 14 while Neville went at 51! Do you really expect that every player, even those taken at 51 should be performing in their first year at the club?

Concerned for Maric. I think he is contracted for 2011, admittedly he does have some time to prove himself and mature a bit more - football nous wise, but his appetite for doing something constructive needs to improve, as is the case with making it in AFL - consistently. Maric's feather attempts at tackling yesterday were reminisce of my nephew's U9's. Indecisive when in possession of the ball most times and failure to apply any degree of physicality for a contest is still evident.

Agreed. Maric needs to ring Haydn Ballantyne and get some of the angry pills he takes prior to a game.

Your last sentence answers your own question. I would be very suprised if Miller is not already aware of his future next year. He has had his chance over an extended period we gain no benefit short or long term I think with promoting him next week.

It has been made clear by Bailey of the importance of getting games into our future forwardline group as a priority. That is more important than rewarding someone who is already on the way out.

Not really sure what you're getting at here sorry. In no way have I answered my question about the culture being built by not selecting players despite their performances at Casey. However, now that we have seen the effort of LJ today, it will make it hard to pick Miller.

We are only assuming that Miller will be gone at the end of the year, so we need to realsie that while he is still on the Melbourne list, he is still one of our players that we can select to play senior footy.

Get your right mate. Neville Jetta was in the 2008 draft. Lewis was selected in the 2009 draft but was available in the 2008 draft. We could have got him as a rookie in 2008 instead of say Ryse Healey. The Club has already made comment that it did not follow through with Neville's mothers comment that Lewis was the best Jetta. Something I believe they now regret.

Lewis Jetta has been ok so far, but he's no certainty to make it... just yet. None of the Jetta's are.

Much like his 2 Jetta cousins, he has a lot of improvement (consistency, poise and goal-kicking) to go thru before anyone will be 'regretting' not picking him up.

Trade is the wrong word ... think you need to understand the CG concession rules before you use the word "trade".

Especially in the context of "un-contracted" players.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
