2010 All-Australian Team

MFC will battle to get one player in the AA at year end.

If we do it will be out of Frawley, Green, Jamar.

Frawley is up against Taylor (Geelong), O'Brien (Collingwood) and may struggle. Gilbert and Fisher are in the mix but have not had as good years as past and St Kilda's decline this year can be partly put down to the fact that oppositions have done their homework on the two players.

Jamar might be up for a bench role but he will face pressure from Jolly, Mumford

Green might get the nod if he gets over 50 goals this year.

Jolly has not had an AA year. Jamar has smashed him twice hasn't he?

Agree with most of the other comments.

The Dees always get shafted in the AA. "It is not on one year's performance but a number of years" type comments come out. Robbo and Yze in particular were robbed in this regard.

Successful teams always get more players than they deserve. Geelong in 07 had, what 9 players in the AA team?? Ridiculous.

My effort in retort

B - B.Deledio B.Lake H.O'Brien

HB - L.Hodge H.Taylor C.Newman

C - B.Goddard J.Selwood A.Goodes

HF - P.Chapman M.Pavlich B.Green

F - J.Riewoldt B.Hall M.LeCras

Foll - A.Sandilands D.Swann G.Ablett

Int - M.Jamar L.Hayes A.Didak M.Boyd

As has been mentioned, three Richmond players? Not a chance in hell. Newman is nowhere near it, and Deledio may be having the best season of his life, but it's still not good enough. Harbrow will be in that spot and Frawley would be miles ahead of Newman. Riewoldt is a shoe-in.

Again Green has been put in at half forward ahead of Steve Johnson. It's just not going to happen.

History tells us that the AA selectors don't take two rucks. Sadly, this leaves Jamar out in the cold. Last year there was a big push to get Clark into the side as second ruck and instead they decided to go with another running player. Given that this is a team that will never play together, they can ignore balance issues and give the nod to big names and personal favorites who might not make it if they needed to actually compete.

I'm pretty sure that the only Demon with a chance this year is Frawley in a back pocket or half back flank.

B: Malceski, Lake, Frawley

HB: Gilbert, Taylor, Enright

C: Goddard, Ablett, Hodge

HF: Didak, Pavlich, Green

F: LeCras, J. Riewoldt, Hall

R: Sandilands, Swan, Boyd

INT: Jamar, Montagna, Chapman, Selwood

Godd effort.

Pavlich hasn't had a great year. I would not have him in AA this year. Enright and Gilbert have dropped off big time lately due to heavy tags and Gilbert is very suss defending. Malceski has been good. Could make it, could not but doesn't really scream for a spot. Green maybe, Frawley should get it. The rest are close to near certainties.

Bartel, Hayes, Pendlebury, Cross are my ins.

Out: Pavlich, Malceski, Green, Gilbert

In: Bartel, Hayes and Pendlebury Cross.

B: Enright Lake Frawley

HB: Hodge Taylor Goddard

C: Pendlebury Hayes Montagna

HF: Ablett JRiewodt Chapman

F: Lecras Hall Didak

R: Sandilands Swan Boyd

Int. Cross, Jamar Selwood Bartel

Is Harry Taylor really in AA form, or is he getting in those teams by default?

I rate him as a pretty good player that reaps the benefit of playing with a bevy of superstars.

I'd have Frawley, Goddard or Hodge start at CHB.

Harry Obrien will get a HBF spot.

From a Melbourne perspective only Jamar and Green would be in calculations IMO. Frawley I'm not sure will get a spot in the defence over players like Lake, Taylor, Gilbert, O'Brien, Enright, Hodge, Fletcher, even Newman.

Jamar is the second best ruck in the competition. His selection probably depends on whether they pick a second ruck or not.

Green has been great this year. IMO he should get in over LeCras but there are others such as Milne and Steve Johnson who are competing for that spot too.

Not entirely sure Ablett gets in. Swan, Hayes, Montagna, Goddard, Mitchell, Selwood, Chapman, Boyd, maybe there are too many others. Ablett's been good, but not as good as the last 2 years.

Being 2nd favourite for the Brownlow doesn't mean squat. Tredrea was favourite for it in 2004 IIRC. But I take your point.

I know what you mean, but it's a good indication of his form this year.

He may not have been as good as years gone, but he is also a victim of the high bar that he sets, like many of the greats.

Automatic inclusion for mine.

Now that's true. I'm probably under-estimating his output by devaluing it with respect to his 2009 and 2008 form.

I guess there are 2 followers, a 'centre', two wingmen, and 3-4 spots on the bench for mids, not including slotting one or two into the half back/forward lines. I'd be looking at Hayes, Montagna, Boyd, Swan and Selwood as the first 5 mids selected, but I guess that leaves room for Ablett too. Hodge on a HBF if room permits, otherwise he forces maybe Selwood out.

Remember that Gerard Healy was on the selection panel in 2009 and assuming he is again in 2010 he will be pushing the case of anyone who has laced up their boots for Sydney and talking down every MFC player that gets mentioned. He will back Malceski all the way & don't be surprised if Goodes sneaks in given the purple patch of form he is currently in.

i know we hate collingwood

but i think Dale thomas will go close...

Agreed. I went the risk and put him in my Dream Team and have reaped the benefits!!

He should definitely be in the 40 players considered or whatever that extended team is called.

Jamar has clearly been the second best ruckman this season but unless the selectors undergo a philosophical change he will not be selected.

Green is an interesting one. He plays an important and reasonably unique role for us, averaging 2.5 goals and 20 possessions per game as a very high roaming forward. In a team with numerous deficiencies over the season - absence of leading target inside 50m and lack of composure + accurate delivery of half back - he covers multiple positions at once. Makes him more valuable to us but may count against him in AA selection when a specialist for each position is chosen (with the exception of whichever onballer they can't fit into the midfield who spills over to another position).

I think Frawley is our best chance. However, his lack of notoriety in the early part of the year means the selectors may not have seen enough of him. Now that he is known if he maintains his current form next year, especially if the Dees continue to improve, he probably will make the 2011 AA.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
