Melbourne, the next Superpower ??

Did anyone read Inside Football today?

On the first page one of their main writers (they all get to make 3 dot points in "what we learned this week in footy"), wrote...

"The demons will have won more flags than any club by 2020."

Which mean we will have had to have won 5 in the next 10 years. And the Blues and Dons would have to win none.

It appears the lid is off, and we're only just out of the bottom 4...

This is gonna hurt when we show the first signs of losing form.

I wonder what Dee supporters and seasoned observers were thinking in 1954??? :)

In Monday's HUN Mike Sheahan wrote that 'the nucleus of the next AFL power was on show', and on 'ON the Couch' he went on to say that the Dee's should be aiming for a top six spot next season. There is a lot of positivity in the media surrounding the team at the moment, and I'm feeling right proud of my team at the moment.

Here's the article from Monday's Herald Sun:

Mike sheahan writing easy articles again....He is so dull.

If Brisbane roll us this weekend-and they are at home, so thus favorites in my view that article means nothing whatsoever.

Good to see you are such a cutting edge Journo Mike..Please Retire soon.

Given that Brisbane go in as favourites then it will be disappointing but not unexpected that MFC lose.

However that should have nothing to do with the LT optimism shown by the journalists.

What they have said should stand regardless of the weekends outcome.

But it won't RR that's the point. If the Bears beat us this weekend we will get Caned by the Media next week for not being able to win away from home, which would make Sheahan's words totally false.

Hey i hope we do win and get rid of this interstate Timidity, but Sheahan's articles are so predictable-He has been writing like that for years-After the event, and never before.

Right so on one hand it wont but then the Media will say something that makes Sheahan's words totally false....which means it will.

Who gives a flying fossil what the media says after the game? Its means little for MFC's long term future when the dust settles.

Sheahan's article are based on a review of the weekend past. If you want footy tips for weekend the HS and Age publish them on Fridays.

That's what i am saying, and why Mike Sheahan's articles are so Dull. Other Journalist's use colour and Psychology in their "wash up" articles of the weekend. Mike just uses stats, which are becoming less and less relevant in a game.

Colour and psychology in AFL media articles...good grief.

And shame on Sheahan for using stats and not pretty pictures.

At least he is not wearing Collingwood jumpers on the front page - see Rohan Connolly in The Age.

For those that may be unaware Mike Sheahan is/was a Demon supporter. He is quick to write positive articles about us in that Monday write up.

Dennis Commetti certainly is. Asked Jimmy for a membership form on the TV coverage last week.

I was told that Dennis is a Melbourne supporter. Not too sure of this although he doesn't hide his admiration for Bob Johnson and the players of that era. Always been pretty positive towards us as a commentator.

Ahh that Article he wrote on James Hird last year still makes me laugh- He must have copped such a hammering over that!

Yes he does live in perth as he keeps calling WA home, also yes definitely a WCE supporter, but I have also heard he is a Dees supporter as well, also heard the same thing about Sheahan, in fact i remember reading something about sheahan wishing he played for melbourne once upon a time.

Remember an interesting story I heard, from someone in the know, about a youg Fev and another star player turning up on Commetti's doorstep in Perth very early one morning after a session, giggling like schoolgirls...

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
