We are 6th on total crowds (H & A). That includes a paltry 8000 or so at Darwin!

Norf are in trouble 11,000 less than us on average per game.

I have been in the members all year for demon games

It is reularly full. Its the fullest that I have experienced in 20 years so the MFC is succeeding in translating MCC to Mfc which stands at aprroximately 25% of MCC members supporting the Demons

With three home games to go against Sydney, Richmond and North we should be able to push our home game attendence above 400,000 for the year. We should get over 50K at the Richmond game and hopefully over 30K for each of the other two. Its amazing the difference the draw makes. We have home games against Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond at the MCG, when you compare that to North Melbournes draw we have been blessed by the AFL this year.

certainly an improvement from 2009 where we were second last in both average attendance per game and total attendance.

in fact, we just exceeded last years total attendance by 2000 with 3 games less.

Agree. Too many people take the crowd numbers at face value without considering the visiting opposition we are playing this year as opposed to last year.

I must fess a Sat arvo is my pref. Given a noted push away from these sat games .. Well seems like some sort of agenda in practice should we make even more of a push to be that team in Melbourne that takes the sat arvo game at the G ? If we are more and more about embellishing our heritage and relevance to this city would this not help cement it ? Melbourne , sat arvo at the G watching Melbourne because that IS Melbourne !!!

I understand where you're coming from, but really in years gone by we've had most of our home games set against interstate teams, which is unfair.

I don't think any Victorian team, no matter how much of a powerhouse, can get a decent crowd against Freo or Port. It's unrealistic.

This year we've received home games, for the first time in YEARS, against teams like Essendon, and it's paying off.

Very true on both counts.

IT also bodes well for Melbourne's fixture submissions for next year. We have proved we can play exciting footy in the big games and we can draw a good crowd even against interstate and low drawing teams. Very interesting that we are above teams like Geelong and Hawthorn.

Hopefully that translates into more Friday / Sat games at the G for the Demons next year and beyond.

(although taking the AFL's perspective they may also say that because we have also drawn well in Sunday games they will keep us there).

I think you are forgetting that we have also drawn reasonable crowds to home games at the G against non-Victorian sides.

In the first 8 rounds we played 7 games at the MCG, 4 of which were home games, but only 2 were against Victorian sides (Hawthorn R1, Bulldogs R7). In the next 7 rounds we've had 3 home games at the MCG, admittedly all of which are against high-drawing Victorian sides. Both St. Kilda and Richmond have had home games against big-drawing clubs and are, on average, only drawing 900-1000 more people through the gate. I think that's a pretty exceptional effort on the MFCs behalf considering the dismal attendance figures of the past few years. A sign that disillusioned punters might be returning after the nuclear football winter.

As other posters have mentioned, strong attendances mean one less thing the media can attack us over. Furthermore, these numbers look increasingly lucrative to organisations unsure of where to place their sponsorship dollar. More spectators at the grounds means greater potential for exposure to sponsor brands etc.

take out darwin and we are up to 42000 average. Not bad.

North are terminal unfortunately.
