Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I happened to have a really interesting conversation with Mark Harvey the other day. I asked him if it was a bad loss to the Tigers or if the tigers are good. He made the point that they are missing 9 of their best 15 players. I was very surprised. I asked him to list them and he said Grover, Tarrant, Fyfe (who he reckons will be a champ), Headland, Mayne, Broughton, Barlow, McPharlin (and one other I don't remember).

With Jurrah and Sylvia back (and maybe Junior) and a side that's full of running and has some depth, I think we have as good a chance as ever to knock over a big team.

GO DEES!

Lets not get carried away Choko... we are terrible on the road & Freo will want to bounce back hard after going down to lowly Tigers side.

I am expecting us to push them for a full 4 quarters and not just roll over and get thumped like so many other interstate games.

I can't believe Harvey considers Headland to be in their best 15 players. Maybe its because I don't like Headland but I thought he would be a depth player now that only gets a game when they have injuries. Headland has never delivered on the promise of his draft pick or form at Brisbane with the help of the fab 4.

Nice thoughts and would be a defining game for our season if we could lock away an interstate win especially against the best interstate side going this year.

I have my doubts though but would like to see more of the same of the last two weeks. If we can stay competitive and in the game for long periods Freo are a side that can wobble!

Without Barlow Freo are a top 8 side at best. We'll give them a crack, but too early to call at this stage.

No chance. I made the call a couple of weeks ago that we have already penciled in the games we will win for the rest of the year - this isn't one of them.

If my theory is correct, I think we will see some interesting selections this week (maybe 2 or 3 that will raise our eyebrows). We will go in to the following week (which happens to be Sydney at the MCG) with a far better team than what we line up this Sunday.

Bailey played it well in the media after yesterday's game, claiming that we will be going for more of a running team this week and there could be some changes. Just putting up a smokescreen for this weeks selections. Well played Bails!

I think we will match up well against them.

If the fair dinkum dees turn up we will give it a shake.

Melbourne are far from a top 8 side, so based on that theory Eth, Freo will win. They are a better team than us, and are at home.

I didn't say we'd win, but Richmond did beat them two days ago. Always good to be hopeful

I rate us a chance, although we did not beat much yesterday.

But we saw earlier this year what a difference a little confidence can do - and our games against the woods and saints were not bad.

Freo have not in their history put a full season together and even the strongest sides usually have some sort of a lull, so yeh we could surprise.

And if we are ever going to be as good as some on this site think we will be, then we must learn to win on the road.

Maybe a 20 per cent chance.

I believe.

Love the optimism. Doubt we will. The interstate hoodoo is still there. It will only begin to leave once they put in solid 4 quarter efforts on the road. If they do that this week then they are a chance.

But Freo on the rebound at Subi on a Sunday arvo doesn't instil me with much confidence.

Hope i am wrong!

No chance.

Really Jaded.

I will wait till the side is selected and decide whether to put a few bucks on us. I give us a chance if we play with intensity for four quarters.

The open spaces and good surface might suit us, especially our forwards.

We couldn't maintain our intensity for four quarters against a miserably poor Essendon. What makes you think we can do it against a top four team at Subiaco?

I dearly hope I'm wrong, and we win by 1000 points, but realistically, we have no chance.

We couldn't or didn't maintain intensity? I wasn't happy about the fade-out either, would love to have beat those P*&*ks by ten goals but we took the foot of the gas because we could.

I am just hopeful that we take something out of the win and get ourselves up for an away game, it has to happen evetually...doesn't it?

Finally we have four forwards each capable of kicking a bag of four goals. We haven't had that for a while. I hope that the last third of the season will be a reasonably good one to watch.

Sticking my neck out, but have a few scars to remind me not to do it too often. I just have a feeling we might catch them napping.

Are we any chance of getting junior back?

Freo were horrible against the Tiges with some extremely poor finishing and major brain explosions happening at both ends of the park. Ballantyne in particular had the worst game I've seen him play, and without him firing they definitely lack something up forward.

Point is that they will be looking to bounce back in style against us, but then again, they said that about Essendon...

I actually quite like Fremantle. Maybe it's because I empathise with them as being the whipping horse of practically every other team for several years, and so enjoy watching them finally stick it up em.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
